I'm just glad we can all agree that Dev2.o is a unheralded masterpiece.
>>63351620
It's un-listenable but as a concept it's brilliant. It proves devolution is real.
>>63351620
That album gave me cancer
>>63351594
I meant Plain Truth
Why is it that Mark was so good with the Fairlight synth outside of Devo, but when it came to Devo, it just fucking sucked? He used it a lot on Pee Wee and Rugrats. Also, his lyrics went downhill as well.

Holy fuck this sounds godawful just reading through the wiki page
>Altered Lyrics
>In "Through Being Cool", the line "Eliminate the ninnies and the twits" is changed to "Eliminate the time you waste in cliques".
>The innuendo-filled "Girl U Want" is perhaps the most-changed song with all lyrics modified, and is sung by Devo 2.0's singer Nicole Stoehr as "Boy U Want".[4]
>The song "Beautiful World" remains mostly unchanged until the end, where the words, "It's a beautiful world for you/It's not for me" have been changed to "It's a beautiful world for you/I guess me too". In addition, the bridge lyrics "Boy and girl with the new clothes on/You can shake it to me all night long hey hey" have been changed to "Boy and girl with the new clothes on/You can pose and party all day long hey hey".
>In "Big Mess" the line "I'm a boy with a gun" became "I'm a girl havin' fun".
>In "Freedom of Choice", the line "Freedom from choice is what you want" was changed to "Freedom of choice is what you want", and the line "he went in circles/til he dropped dead" became "he went in circles/til he dropped down".
>The theme of "Uncontrollable Urge" changed from social anxiety to craving snack foods, and "Jerkin' Back 'N Forth", a song about a woman saying one thing but meaning another, is now a perky song about dancing.
>In the song "The Winner" is a re-recording with new lyrics of "If the Shoe Fits" by Jihad Jerry & the Evildoers. The anti-George W. Bush sentiment was replaced by a song about perseverance and thinking for oneself.

>tfw the official Devo documentary that was on kickstarter will probably never come out because Mark keeps blocking it because he doesn't like how he's portrayed in it.
It's his own damn fault for being an asshole. He's not making himself look any better by blocking it.
>>63352946
What did they show that made him look bad?
>>63352946
>tivo
>>63352977
It's just how he's portrayed as far as fans know. he keeps rejecting every cut of the film and it's driving people crazy. Gerald Casale tweeted last year that "Now that history is being re-written my only claim to fame is sharing a b-day with Marcel Duchamp." meaning that there are some truths that were be erased from the documentary to appease the one holding the keys to release, which is Mark. There's always been a lot of conflict in the band when it comes to Mark. He's the reason why there was less Bob 2 on the later albums.
>>63353116
and alan felt muscled out during the shout sessions by the fairlight
and apparently mark banned jerry from the studio during recording
>>63350465
Listen to more music.
>>63353219
Mark even pushed the band away when it came to recording a lot of the E-Z Listening version of their songs, which was a full band thing they did for fun. I love Mark, but holy fuck, he is a dick.
>>63351620
Their last album was made in cooperation with marketing groups, so they say.
>>63353660
>Devo also began working with a newly opened Los Angeles branch of New York City-based marketing group Mother New York to produce a number of videos designed to satirize the use of focus groups in marketing research and radio programming. The first of these was released in February to determine the new color for the band's famous Energy Dome headgear and asked participants what sound colors made and how they made them feel. Ultimately, blue was the color that was selected. Other videos used focus groups to arrive at conclusions like "'Fresh' alleviates aches and pains" and "3 out of 5 people would hold 'Fresh' with their feet for more than 3 minutes."
>>63353854
this is cool because they can play it off as like...devo zaniness......but they still used focus testing to determine how to be the most popular
>>63354165
>but they still used focus testing to determine how to be the most popular
but they completely shrugged off the results of the song study version of the album, which was only192kbps mp3s, and released a deluxe edition and standard edition in the order of their own choosing.
Literally the most unintelligent listening experience i have ever had in music. Not even b8. It's absolutely the most overrated trash i have ever heard.
>>63351443
HOLY SHIT IT'S REAL
>>63354227
i didnt actually know anything about the release other than that little anecdote
ive never even listened to something for everybody

It's actually a pretty good album IMO. There's some weak songs on it, but it's worth a listen. I recommend the deluxe edition.
>>63354321
forgot to add, Knock Boots is worth finding if you like the album
Speaking of Something for Everybody, they put the 360 music video up two weeks ago. Neat
