Is she currently the drunkest singer in the industry or does she just have a speech impediment? It seems like she's really giving Darby Crash a run for his money on this one.
So far it seems like about half of the 2 disc album kinda sucks and could've just been kept at a single disc but I havent exactly digested it fully yet.

Her vocals can be an obstacle.
Doesn't change the fact that the overall tone of that album is absolutely gorgeous and it doesn't feel like it's 80+ minutes long.
Faith & Grace, man... the closest i could come to describing that track is "kraut-country". Can't say i've ever really heard anything like it. It's up there with Blackstar's title track for SOTY so far.

Not him but Lu is 63 years old. Also she's from the South so she has a drawl. Also her teeth are fucked up. Her singing's super expressive now, a la Lady In Satin era Billy Holiday.
As for Side 2, If There's A Heaven and Faith & Grace are the only songs I'd throw back. The title track has 2 too many verses but the rest is lovely. Can't Close The Door On Love is the best thing on the whole album.

Lucky bastard. The bitch who sold me my $15 version wasn't even cute. And yes, In a career of great albums it's a standout. She's in her late-career renaissance. She spent the 2000's in a blues funk but her songwriting seems to be picking up now that she's married and settled down. As for the drinking, she's been known to hold her own in the bars but this record was made on her dime, on her own label with her husband co-producing and her own band backing her up. i doubt she could've gotten away with recording while smashed even if she wanted to. you get used to her voice after a few albums.
