No problem. The Allmans jam hard. Check out the Dead too, if you haven't already.

Tell us what you think of that album. I'm curious about it too since it's on a lot of people's charts.

Does anyone else find it difficult when there's a "classic", or some sort of renowned album, but they don't enjoy it?
>>
>>63325809
no i cherish it because then i can be a contrarian poseur

are you talking about a specific album right now?
>>
>>63325809
not really, although sometimes I wonder if I missed something or didn't pay enough attention. But it doesn't happen when it's a "classic", rather when all of the information around it makes me think I'll like it (people with similar tastes thinking high of it, reviews, band members involved whom I like, cover art and other stuff),

Love, Claire - Love, Claire
[1997]

Indie as fuck slowcore. Recorded on cassette and not really known even in the underground; it reminded me of the most post-rock parts of spiderland, but this is something completely else: four tracks of slow singing, heartfelt guitar noodling, memorable payoffs and overall the perfect music for the moment of letting it all go.

Yeah, probably. My favorite is Jazz in Silhouette but it doesn't get much love, so I'd go with Lanquidity and then Sleeping Beauty if it was received well.

The Golden Palominos - s/t [Nyar/Laser/Mystery Man]

All the less interesting parts of no wave with all the worst parts of a band like Faith No More, plus a lot of cluttered, clueless experiments that never go far enough. Shines now and then, but never very brightly, and the rest of the time it makes me feel a little unwell

Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Ensemble - Dreams [Relgob]

bluh i forgot everything i was gonna say about this. Starts out lovely and gradually gets crazier and feedback-i-er. Touches lot of different styles of jazz, so like the Mulatu album it's a good introduction, only this time for avant-teens. Unlike Mulatu, though, I could see myself coming back to this after exploring the genre for a while and still think it's great

need an album released after 1990, Relgob

>Kreng - Grimoire
Spooky sounds! Feels like a creepier non-improv version of Supersilent combined with Bohren-esque atmosphere. Also features a lot of violins and all that good stuff. A little too obvious in its intentions maybe, but eh, it works. 3.5-

>Anna Guo - Chinese Traditional Yan Qin Music
Music on the yang qin, a Chinese harp instrument. I seem to have a bit of a weak spot for this sort of calm, lush music on a foreign instrument. In any case, impossible not to like. 3.5

>Black Cilice - Mysteries
Seems like I'm into gimmick black metal moreso than the real deal. This album's pretty monotonous, as is to be expected from black metal, but this one's got a very unique sound: it's extremely noisy. And I don't mean that in a usual black metal kind of way, no, the noise here feels like Going Places has invaded the album. It works very well with the sound of black metal, and the noise, coming mostly from what seems like howled vocals distorted beyond recognition, give it the spooky yet sad sound that black metal seems to love so much. At 37 minutes, it doesn't overstay its welcome either. Good shit. 3.5

>Destroyer - Kaputt
A while ago I saw a lil video featuring this Dan bejar bloke, and my god, he's like, the dullest and most humorless person ever. His music, sadly, doesn't fare much better than his personality, and in fact bears some similarities. It's 80s pop made for the indeh crowd, with that omnipresent laid-back, bittersweet sound that just doesn't do much for me. Sure, it's all pleasant enough and the first track I kinda like, but it all just plods forth in the same vein, no change in tempo, loudness, mood, whatever. The final nail in its coffin is the smooth ajzz sax that pops up every now and again to force some atmosphere into the whole thing. Oh, and Dan Bejar is about as dull as he is as a person, so there you go. This could have been worse, but as it stands it's still nothing but a bit of a snoozefest. 1.5

>>63325809
It used to bother me but now I just mentally file it away for the future when I might be more receptive to it

Finished CD 6. It contains works by Chopin and Schumann only. Schumann's Carnaval is something I reviewed a while ago and to sum it up I really like the song format and the picturesque programs. I'm Fish (France) vs Post-Feelist (Finland)

Joensuu 1685 was pretty damn good. I really liked the kinda drone-y spacemen 3-esque riffs. I wish more modern shoegaze bands sounded like this rather than mostly being dream pop. 3.5/5

I had high hopes going into 'The Dance of the Moon and the Sun' and I don't think it disappointed. 'Felt Presence, Ghostly Humming' is one of the best songs I've heard in a while, I was enjoying the album up until then but that blew me away. Halfway through that song I suddenly just had a feeling of sadness, I don't even know if sadness describes it properly, I can't really explain the way it made me feel, it just gave me a very powerful emotional reaction, maybe helpless describes it? There were a couple of moments I thought could be trimmed but I don't know if that would ruin the magic of this album, the good moments were incredible. Few albums have affected me in this way. 4.5/5 (could be a 5 after a few more listens.)
>>
>>63328941
Also every time you post this I think that De Staat is that shitty Dutch band and get angry that it got 3.0 but then I see its not
>>
>>63329236
It is pretty sisyphean. But it's worth it for those moments after changes in your life, when you decide to relisten to an album you never liked and suddenly it just clicks. No mental baggage from constructed justifications for your previous non-comprehension of it to sort through. Just a fresh outlook and an excellent new album to enjoy. I'm projecting pretty hard but that's my experience of it.

I hated hated the vocals, Dun is so much above that album it's not even funny. Dun is my fave prog rock album also.

Loveless has become so lackluster. I don't enjoy almost any of it expect Only Shallow and Sometimes (which is still 9/10) anymore :(

(1/2):

>Repetition
A strange experience: For the first three or four songs this is one of greatest best rock albums I’ve ever heard, after that I start waiting for it to end. Perhaps I just don’t like noise rock as much as I think I do. Will probably give this another chance soon.

>Black Messiah
The production on this is everything you’d want from a modern soul album – inventive, groovy, and packed with gorgeous details while still maintaining a rough, organic feel as if all the elements just happened to fall into place. The songs themselves aren’t very memorable, however, and the way the vocals are overdubbed make them needlessly hard to decipher. An enjoyable album, but not something I think I’ll be returning to.

>Mount Eerie
This is the stuff. Less melodic than The Glow Pt. 2, the only other Microphones album I’ve spent any considerable time with, but it’s also way more ambitious and experimental. Not much to say about this one, just a great album.
>>
>>63330892
>Death Certificate
Classic. Production, hooks, storytelling, bars; this one’s got it all. Cube is a commanding, powerful mc, and even though 20 songs of him with hardly any features might sound like a lot to take in at once, something about the way the anger of his voice gels with the upbeat, funky production makes this so fun to listen to.

>Stress: The Extinction Agenda
Confirms my suspicion that I really don’t care about east coast hip hop anymore.

>Hymie’s Basement
I was pretty big into Anticon when I was 15, and while the mere thought of going back to Themselves or Sole is enough to make me cringe, I thought this would be a good album to revisit. But while this isn’t exactly terrible –21st Century Pop Song is a legitimately good song, and the album does pick up towards the end – 45 minutes for forgettable indie pop with unecessary experimental flourishes isn’t particularly exciting either. I was surprised by how little of this album that I could remember while listening to it, most of the songs sounded pretty now to me, which leads me to conclude that I probably just listened to 21st Century Pop Song over and over again.

Today's album:
>Cathedral - Forest of Equilibrium
Nearly fell asleep listening to this.
The album cover shows a complex scene of fantasy in which every detail seems to portray some story of quirks. But I don't find such enigmatic delivery in the music, and so the slow rhythm of the drawn out doom riffs only contributes to the sense that Forest of Equilibrium has a contrived, protracted doominess rather than a naturally contemplative sound. Because of this, very few sections of Cathedral's composition hear beg for a repeated listen.

As always, the actual review will be on rateyourmusic.

>The Body - I Shall Die Here
>sludge

A collaborative project involving Haxan Cloak and The body brings this Doom heavy, dark ambient, noisy album that is creepy, heavy, and fucking evil. It has its cool moments that kind of feels like if wolf eyes had some doom metal influences, but It also has its problems. Like where If you like your doomy or sludgy riffs but gets detracting by the frantic drumming or it breaks out into a noise segment. Its take on multiple genres is defiantly off putting, but for me I can't help but feel its vibes. It has this sinister nature that pulls me right in.

Warning - Watching From a Distance (2006)
>doom metal

The thing I've learned about this album is that it gets significantly better the more you think of it as a slowcore album with heavy, distorted guitars rather than a more standard doom metal album. Because my /god/, that's the most unmetal voice I've ever heard in a metal album ever. But it fits perfectly in a more slowcore context, which is kinda what the instrumentation is hinting at, except amped up with distortion to the umpteenth degree. The vocals and instrumentation don't work together at all, but I do love the crushing, sombre atmosphere this album creates. Its sticking with me.

3.0

Siege - Drop Dead (1994)
>hardcore punk, thrashcore

Forgettable bargain bin hardcore for 8 tracks and then it fucking EXPLODES with the final track, its got sax and everything. Luckily, this is the longest track, but the rest of the album is plainly mediocre, and just forgettable as hell. But that one track though, DAMN.

2.5+

Erkin Koray - Elektronik Türküler (1974)
>psychedelic rock, anatolian rock

Real nice experimentations with psych and turkish folk music. The b-side trumps the a-side by a significant margin, though both are nice. The guitar work here is astounding.

Daughters- s/t- 9/10- Wow... This blew me away. I didn't know what to expect aside from a typical noise rock release, but this is something more. It's like if early Mercury Rev decided to make a heavy metal album, or at least their interpretation of one.
