Just when I thought I started getting bored of "indie-rock".
This album is insanely catch and fun. Why do I almost never see it on /mu/?
>>63287191
Perfect from now on is better, but thats a good one too.
because perfect from now on is 100x better
because /mu/ is full of plebs
>>63287289
>>63287284
I've heard both and like Secret a little more. Just sounds so much more refined and the tracks don't drag on as much.
>>63287289
no
they're good for different reasons
>>63287191
>Why do I almost never see it on /mu/?
Because It's not popular enough. Great album though, and great band in general. The 3 albums before that one and Ancient Melodies of the Future are al GOAT.
fyi There's Nothing Wrong With Love is best tho
>mfw one of the biggest indie rock bands of all time isn't actually indie
i dunno, i feel like it's pretty well-loved and widely mentioned
maybe you should lurk a little longer before making threads directly concerned with "why don't i see ______ on this board?" questions
>>63287751
Nah, not OP but I can say from being on this board for years that BtS is rarely brought up, and when it is discussion dies out pretty quickly.
>>63287515
>Ancient Melodies
>Better than any of the albums they released after it
haha wow
>>63287838
Yes I believe that. New ones are pretty boring desu.
>>63287831
everyone loves them. they're on par with yo la tengo, guided by voices, etc. as classic indie rock that everyone can get behind. they're not discussed as much, but when they are the threads are generally pretty fruitful and intelligent. people debate best albums and interesting lesser known releases, live performances, side projects, whatever. there's just not much point in discussing artists everyone can agree are great
>>63287881
Boring isn't a criticism
Ancient Melodies has nothing that even comes close to Goin' Against Your mind, and then the rest of the tracks on You In Reverse are pretty much equal to Ancient Melodies' quality, except I prefer the spacious jams and much prefer the guitar tones.
The entire back half of There Is No Enemy is a highlight for me, the menacing slow burn of Oh Yeah, the hypnotic jamming of Done, the personal lyrics and raw energy of Pat etc. The entire album has a really lush sound and some of Doug's absolute best lyrics.
Untether Moon is not as great, but it's just solid and fun. Living Zoo is probably my favorite song they've done since KILAS, and So and When I'm Blund are great as well.
>>63288112
Ancient Melodies is pretty underwhelming aside from Strange, which is one of their best songs. You in Reverse to me feels like the Ancient Melodies that should've been.
>tfw Carry a Zero comes on
>>63288112
>Boring isn't a criticism
i don't agree with this. it's a poor criticism sure, but we're not reviewing music here. i don't understand why people get all up in arms about buzzwords like these.
>>63288347
Have you been able to see it live? They've been doing a really great jam on the end of strange.
>>63287527
mah nigga
>>63288384
Because it's just meaningless. It doesn't say anything. If someone thinks an album is uninspired, or samey, or whatever they mean by boring, that's what they should say.
>>63287191
Exactly the opposite for me. I always loved bands like Guided by voices, (sort of) Sebadoh, Dead c and the whole NZ indie/flying nun scene, so bands like Tall Dwarfs, 3DS, The Terminals, so I'm not new to this so-called "indie". Built to Spill though was one of the dullest things I've ever heard, not even joking. Same goes for Pavement.
>>63288520
it's not meaningless, it's just not specific
>>63288520
>uninspired
that's not any better
You Were Right is their only good song
>>63287191
>never see it on /mu/
LMFAO
Built to Spill is one of the indie rock bands that has huge recognition on /mu/ compared to all of the other bands who everyone ignores
it's because Built to Spill got that Pitchfork recognition and you plebs literally can't listen to anything but pitchforkcore for some weird scary reason
I saw them in Sydney a few days ago and they were great. Lost my shit when they opened with Randy Describes Eternity.
Also said hi to Doug and he's a great guy.
>>63287284
>>63287289
This opinion is wrong, sorry bud
>mfw I discover that a better Modest Mouse exists
Time Trap is the best track
>>63288365
The solo at the end though
>>63288708
>implying I only find out about indie bands from /mu/
I bet you newfags never went to epitonic.
I have only listened to Ultimate Alternative Wavers as part of my "listen to first albums first" campaign, and it is fucking fantastic. Are their other albums actually better?
>>63292661
>Are their other albums actually better?
Sweet Jesus, it's not even close. For their next three albums they get 10x better each album to the climax that is Secret.
You're in for a treat anon.
>>63287191
There's nothing wrong with love is better IMO as well as perfect from now on.
i agree with this anon >>63287751
BTS are pretty widely loved here.
>>63287284
>>63287289
It;s not. It fucking sucks compared to this. Pitchfork agrees. Keep it Like a Secret - 9.3
Perfect from Now On - 9.2
It's better. Go hang yourselves for having bad taste. Faggots
>>63294015
Fucking no you have terrible taste
This is their best album by a lot
Broken Chairs tho
