I think I've accurately dissected the groups on /mu/:
>Pedestrian
>Not at all aware of music below surface level; does not care about music beyond it being background noise for partying
>Favorites: Whatever is Top 40 right now and a few classics
>Dadrocker
>Believe that music hasn't been good since Kurt Cobain died. High levels of rockism.
>Favorites: Pink Floyd, ACDC, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath
>Poptimist
>Like the dadrocker, but with music released after 2000. Does not stick to a particular genre.
>Fear looking pretentious; only listen to whatever P4K and TND feed them
>Favorites: Grimes, Kendrick Lamar, Chvrches
>"I want to fit in on /mu/"-core
>Listens to whatever is on the essential /mu/core charts and believes it's good without question. Will get very upset if someone calls it bad.
>Favorites: Have a Nice Life, GY!BE, Radiohead, King Crimson, Slint
>Avant-Teen/Mallgoth/Poseurcore
>Pretends to like strange and experimental music because it's "deep and esoteric" without actually having the technical or historical knowledge to understand why it's significant
>Most of their taste comes from Chart threads, The Wire, and Brainwashed.com
>Favorites: Coil, Gerogerigegege, Merzbow, Sun Ra, This Heat
>Fake Patrician
>Someone who claims to love music that is regarded as amazing without really getting what made it interesting due to having zero music theory knowledge.
>Favorites: Coltrane, Wegner, Bach, Ellington
>True Patrician
>It's a secret. They will contact you when you are here.
Thoughts?
you missed me

But my favourite bands are Emmure and Attila
>>63277942
>>>True Patrician
When I listen to rock music I feel like I'm dying inside. Where do I fit in?
Also the favorites seem to include a lot of meme acts including meme rock, meme rap, meme pop, meme jazz, meme classical and meme electronic.
Is the favoritism of memes the cause of anti intellectualism on /mu/?
I'm ok with all of those save for group 3 and 4
Nope. If this was true, I would have to put about 80% of this board in the true patrician category because I don't believe that most people here fit into any of the other categories. Maybe I'm mistaken and being hopelessly optimistic though.
>>63278048
You're being hopelessly optimistic, friend. Pretty much everyone falls into one of the above categories.
im something btween a poptimist mallgoth fake patrician and true patrician i think
>>63277904
100% correct
>>63277904
The true patrician is somebody who listens to anything as long as it's good, but nobody can ever agree what's good so nobody can ever be patrician.
Also what level are entry level Krautrock bands like Can and Neu? I've been listening to them alot.
>>63278185
Disregard stale meme.

>"I want to fit in on /mu/"-core
What about the eclectic? I listen to and appreciate a wide variety of genres.
Otherwise I would be considered avant-teen/mu-core which is ridiculous.
>>63278261
>I have no sense of creativity so I take dead memes from the archive and rebrand them
Say it, don't scream it.
>>63278319
You're /mu/-core. deal with it.
>>63278185
>exuma

>>63278357

True patrician don't care what /mu/ thinks
>>63277904

>>63278524
You're on the wrong website.

>>63278605
>>>/reddit/
Go on, little pissbaby.
>>63277904
what is up with all this "you need to know music theory to understand experimental and weird music" wankery?
>>63278605
"I want to fit in on /mu/"-core
>>63278546
>>63278572
Pretty much any website is full of people who get autistic and closed minded about everything, like reddit and ultimate guitar
>>63278653
The only people that would have gripes with this are ignorant to music theory, i.e. shouldn't even be on this board.
>The cure
>Bowie
>Daft Punk
What do I fall under, /mu/?
>>63279320
"I want to fit in on /mu/"-core
>>63279320
stop caring about what other people think especially random people on 4chan m8
i listen to exactly zero of the artists listed under "Favorites"
does that make me a true patrician
is that how this works

I don't really care. Just curious what the "Patricians" thought of it.
>>63279385
Yes, you've won.
Congratulations.
>>63278862
not really true. I'm educated in music theory but I don't think it is something essential for listening to any kind of music. I'd say knowledge of music history and art history is much more important for appreciating and understanding (although I dislike this term since not all music is supposed to be "understood"; it doesn't have a singular purpose or message hidden beneath) experimental music and the avant-garde.
If I simplify, I think it is not essential -for example- to know what chords and changes is John Coltrane playing over, but rather how is his playing different from those before him? Who were his influences? What did he change?
But in the end I still believe music must be felt and every person with ears and an open mind can do that.

wow nice
i'd like to thank my mum and dad and everyone in the academy
