Tiger's Jaw is very nice to get you the general feel of the whole emo scene. It's very poppy, so anyone can get into it. A good follow up could be Tiny Moving Parts and then Brave Little Abacus, both of the bands are quite chill.
William Bonney is great to settle into some screamo, just to get a feel for the whole screaming thing, then when you're comfortable you go onto bands like Shizune and Merchant Ships, where the screaming is harder, until you can enjoy bands like Heroin, Pg. 99, Orchid etc. (Something I still can't get into, unfortunately)

Haven't been to /mu/ in a while, glad to see this threads are still here (although I still don't like the association of emo with anime :/ , I think emo/revival/post hc/ post rock whichever pidgeon hole peolple use now days, is underrated - [Just look at a PRAWN or OLDE PINE gig on youtube [[anyway this is probly how I like it]] ], some of the guys that posted on this threads did show me some cool bands i didn't know, so they're a service to the scene.)

I think Boy's Life reformed recently. They did a tour anyway. But check out the band Brandon and Joe did a few years later: Canyon. Kinda psychedelic country/space rock. That shouldn't scare you based on what BL sounded like, but if it does, just trust me, it's good.

Yeah Bluetile Lounge sound so pure. It's funny how a fairly unknown band from Australia did slowcore music as brilliantly as bands like Red House Painters. There's a really interesting podcast about them on soundcloud but I'm on mobile so I can't link. And yes I have heard Mukaizake too, I think Daniel Erickson is the guy in both bands.

One of my favorite albums, it could be discussed here as an album parallel to emo as most of slowcore albums and the likes.
The problem is that DC includes elements from other genres (post-punk, drone, shoegaze) that are far away from the core emo elements that it feels that it might not belong entirely here.
