How pleb are you?
top mid is retarded, real plebs can't discern the difference between 128s and 320s
>>63247938
pseudo-patricians exclusively listen to 320 and flac even if it's transcoded
Kill yourself
What the fuck is this shit?
>>63247832
i got them all haha

>>63247832
>>63247832
there's nothing pleb about spotify
phew this means i'm officially not a pleb right?
>>63247832
It's way more plebby to dismiss an entire genre as being crap though. If you haven't found a single hip-hop release which you think is at the very least good, you're either not looking hard enough or allowing prejudice to get in the way of you enjoying stuff.
Don't get the ipod hate either. Is there something particularly superior about other players or do people have a problem with the idea of a portable music player?
>>63247832
>>63249053
>Is there something particularly superior about other players or do people have a problem with the idea of a portable music player?
I'm happy with using my phone for this purpose to be perfectly honest. I don't see anything wrong with using an iPod, mind you.
do i win now?
bad chart but I got bingo so there's that

How is ''electronic music'' a genre? What makes all these a genre together?
Electroacousmatic
Onkyo, EAI and tap music
Musique concrete
Industrial
Hip hop
Techno
House
Breaks
Trance
Garage
Ambient
Downtempo
Synthpop
PBR&B
They are all ''electronically produced music''.
>>63247832
Not bad
whos mad
>>63247832
to be fair, it's so easy to find things in flac. failing that, I'll settle for 320.
Electronic music is a genre.
>>63247832
What do you mean albums exclusively
I sometimes listen to comps and EPs
I mostly listen to rock but don't think it's the ebst
What do you mean by music theory knowledge? I know something, but very little
>>63249958
>>63249659
It is a genre the same way Jazz, Rock and Classical are.
>>63249982
Its a huge reaching umbrella term like classical using a multitude of instruments and covering a vast array of genres sure.
Jazz and rock are just genres with definable characteristics.
>>63247832
literally a total pleb
>>63249982
electronica is a genre the same way jazz, rock and classical are
electronic music is a production method
>>63250006
rock is wider than electronic you plebberino
>>63250074
I have no problem with electronica (for dance and downtempo, IDM) desu
>>63250097
ahahahaha

"Music that uses digital and synthesised instrumentation as opposed to traditional and acoustic instrumentation and that does not use analogue manipulation of sounds but digital manipulation."
>wht abt an electric guitar is tht electric?
no cause it does analogue manipulations string vibrations
>wht abt muh produced feeld recordings
no cause its a direct recording
>ur definition breaks down with specific examples
well ofc it does all genres do
>>63250097
>r&b subgenre
>wider than all of >>63249659
>>63250144
So string music and brass music are genres too according to your definition. Okay m8y.
Literally how are you not a member of a private tracker in 2016?
>>63250177
If you make a genre of music for a specific type of instrumentation then sure, you could have string music
Think of it like this: if you played black metal on an oboe, would it still be black metal? No, not really. So clearly, the instrumentation is a valid facet of the genre
>>63248989
only thing about it that is shit is the malicious advertising.
*THUMPING AND SHIT* "don't like that? get spotify premium ;)"
I'm good
Horrible bingo tbhsmh senpai, reeks of salt
>>63250196
>specific type of instrumentation
Well you've got all these for ''electronic music'' >>63249741
So for string music you'd have guitars, violin, banjo, harp etc
For brass music you'd have trumpets, trombones yada yada
>>63250196
> if you played black metal on an oboe, would it still be black metal?
If just a single Oboe played did a cover album of Burzum songs it would still be black metal.
>tfw no bingo

what about modular synthesizers anon?
>>63247832
>Listen to albums

What?
>>63250298
>never listening to compilations, singles, EPs, live recordings
>>63250298
classical and dance music and pre-1930's music aren't album oriented
>>63247832
Won
>>63250248
I consider electronic music to have a different definition to >>63249741 →
And I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree about Burzum on an oboe.
>>63250275
See there's fundamentally no substantial difference between a Moog or a guitar pedal and amp. So I don't consider analogue synths electronic music given that they don't use digitalised sounds.
>>63250341
Electronic music is music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production.
Which includes all of >>63249659
What other possible definition is there? Link?
>>63250380
It's the (consistent) definition by which I've interpreted the genre.
"Electronic" instrumentation is a bit vague. If I use a speaker, does my music become electronic music?
If I record an orchestra playing Wagner and run it through garageband, has my electronic music tech & production converted it to electronica?
The definition is a bit flimsy
>Electronic music is not a genre
>Classical music is
>>63247832
Do I win?
>>63250424
So the definition your using for the ''genre'' is just personal cherry picking, yeah we're done here, enjoy my filter retard.
>>63250437

I've been on /mu/ for about 4 years now and still don't know what a private tracker is
>>63247832
Honestly having no knowledge of music theory probably makes you more qualified than having "basic" knowledge. It's probably the people with "basic" knowledge who constantly refer to bands/genres as relying on two- or three-chord structures when that's absolutely not the case.
>>63250498
A tracker that you need an invitation to join

I've had whatcd for over a year but I've never used collages. What's so great about them?
>all these angry plebs saying this is a "shit chart"
It's one of the least inaccurate "pleb bingo" images I've seen, the only dumb ones are the "likes rap" one, because writing off an entire genre is usually pretty dumb, the "rock music is best music", because that's just an opinion and the "uses an ipod" one. Also, depending on what constitutes /mu/core it could very well be the considered some of the best music out there.
>>63247832
THIS pleb
Don't really listen to music desu, just here cause I'm bored.
BINGO
BINGO!
at least I'm less pleb than most of the people on this thread
ok, knowing /mu/, not nearly as many people as there should have been checked "rock music is the best genre" this board is rock-centric as fuck, hardly a step above reddit
>>63247832
>being able to stomach anything lower than 2000 kb/s FLACs
>spending money on a music collection
>listening to music out of the order it was meant to be played in
Here's my analysis of this chart:
Other than "browses /mu/", all four of the tiles in the center column are obsessive, pseudo-patrician behavior and make use of specialized vocabulary or concepts.
That makes any of the non-center rows unlikely, and, as for the center row, no one who is deep enough into this shit to use Scaruffi as an insult is going to admit to not being able to play an instrument alongside not having a physical collection. More or less the same thing applies to that column; someone who reads enough music criticism to think that way isn't going to idolize rock music and enjoy rap on his iphone.
Listening exclusively to albums is also just fucking weird, so there goes that column.
Boses and Beats are expensive, making that column and diagonal unlikely.
Someone doesn't just dismiss art or traditional music unless they feel they know more about music theory than you do, and that's the far-left column.
And on the far-right, listening to music ironically but also enjoying the lyrics for their own sake, being self-aware about this enough to mark it on the chart, and then turning around and shitting on Reddit or Pitchfork for being plebs is just too much inconsistency for one person.
>In conclusion:
There's enough of a mixture of obsessive /mu/tant-core behaviors and entry-level plebbery that most of the possible ways to achieve Bingo are unlikely, outside of the top-right to bottom-left diagonal. Anyone who likes raps is obviously into lyrics, the "electronic music" meme (I use that non-pejoratively) is a common belief, and most people do not have any specific knowledge of formal music theory.
