2016 looks to a be grim year for the great 20th century musicians comrades.
He did awesome things for keyboard players in rock music. He sounded like a band from the future. Made me proud to pick up the keys.
ELP was a hugely influential band not only for the backlash they prompted that lead to the rise of punk music but also as a direct influence on tons of young Japanese keyboardists who would later go on to be massively influential composers in their own right. RIP

It's historically important, but the classical/rock combination was poorly executed. Songs like "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin" are fantastic pieces of music, but the orchestra really seemed irrelevant. Contrast this with how tightly groups like ELP integrated classical ideas into their work.
I would still hesitate to really call DOFP Prog at all, really. It has more in common with other "Summer of Love" album, Sgt. Pepper, really.

No, the Anderson impersonator they have right now is fucking terrible along with Downesyndrome butchering all of Wakeman's parts. I wouldn't have seen them without any of those three guys, maybe with Tony Kaye, but that would just be for the novelty of it. And Howe looks like the fucking crypt keeper now.

His sound is part of what makes them sound the way they do, in my opinion.

Well, you can have someone who plays that instrument almost as well as the original member, and brings something new to the table without misrepresenting the band. Bruford vs White is a good example, or Kaye vs Wakeman. But a vocalist and lyricist like Anderson can't be replaced, he really is the soul of Yes.
