Damn I was listening to ELP all day randomly. When I got home I listened to Black Moon on youtube (I used to hate this album but some of the songs have really grown on me) and sure enough the comments led me to the news

>>
He did awesome things for keyboard players in rock music. He sounded like a band from the future. Made me proud to pick up the keys.
>>
ELP was a hugely influential band not only for the backlash they prompted that lead to the rise of punk music but also as a direct influence on tons of young Japanese keyboardists who would later go on to be massively influential composers in their own right. RIP

>During every show, a keyboard tech reclined underneath Wakeman’s Hammond organ, ready to fix broken hammers or ribbons and to “continually hand me my alcoholic beverages.” That night in Manchester, the tech asked the bored Wakeman what he wanted to eat after the show. Wakeman, the lone carnivore in Yes, ordered the curry. “Half the audience were in narcotic rapture on some far-off planet and the other half were asleep, bored shitless.”

He just wanted some curry.

Fuck damn it, why are the greats in electronic music keeling over? Who's next? Rick Wakeman? Laurie Anderson? Ralf Hütter?!

I swear, it was hearing "Lucky Man" on the radio growing up that got me into electronic music. There's a direct link from the "Lucky Man" Moog Modular solo to the Minimoog solo on DEVO's "Mongoloid".

*sigh*

Supposedly, he had developed a neurogenerative disorder that would keep him from playing. If that's the case, I couldn't blame him one bit for taking his own way out.

Somewhat prog, i guess, but the orchestrations were shoehorned in awkwardly as fuck and the Moody Blues were never the technical players prog usually requires (an excellent pop/psychedelic art rock band though, with that haunting mellotron).

>>63241334
It's historically important, but the classical/rock combination was poorly executed. Songs like "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin" are fantastic pieces of music, but the orchestra really seemed irrelevant. Contrast this with how tightly groups like ELP integrated classical ideas into their work.

I would still hesitate to really call DOFP Prog at all, really. It has more in common with other "Summer of Love" album, Sgt. Pepper, really.

Would anybody see Yes without Wakeman, Squire, or Anderson? Is it even worth it?

Alan White and Steve Howe are still there, but i mean......

The same goes for ELP. Greg Lake and Carl Palmer were to tour again with someone who could play Keith Emerson's parts, would you go see them?
>>
>>63242366
I'd see them if it was just the old members, not if they had some replacement, though.
>with someone who could play Keith Emerson's parts, would you go see them?
nobody can play them like him
>>
>>63242366
They are too old at this point. Palmer can't keep up like he used to and Lake almost sounds completely different.
>>
>>63242366
>Yes without Wakeman, Squire
Maybe.

>Yes without Anderson
Not Yes.

>ELP without Emerson

>>
>>63242366
>Would anybody see Yes without Wakeman, Squire, or Anderson? Is it even worth it?
No, the Anderson impersonator they have right now is fucking terrible along with Downesyndrome butchering all of Wakeman's parts. I wouldn't have seen them without any of those three guys, maybe with Tony Kaye, but that would just be for the novelty of it. And Howe looks like the fucking crypt keeper now.
>>
>>63242408
I could argue that Yes isn't Yes without Chris Squire.

His sound is part of what makes them sound the way they do, in my opinion.
Then again, the same can be said about any member.

Here's another discussion:
Bruford, or White?
>>
>>63242423
>And Howe looks like the fucking crypt keeper now.
You'd think he'd be the first to go, not Squire.
>>
>>63242435
Well, you can have someone who plays that instrument almost as well as the original member, and brings something new to the table without misrepresenting the band. Bruford vs White is a good example, or Kaye vs Wakeman. But a vocalist and lyricist like Anderson can't be replaced, he really is the soul of Yes.

/x/ here.

I'm getting worried.

Want to know why?

Artists (incl. musicians) are sensitive people.

You could say they are far more sensitive than the average person.

Now why are all the artists suddenly dying at once?

Sure some are old. I get that some would have died this year anyway.

But it has been a big rash of deaths, all at once.

All significant artists.

Canaries in the coalmine are dying.

I'm scared.

There must be someone who can set them free:
To take their sorrow from this odyssey
To help the helpless and the refugee
To protect what's left of humanity.
Can't you see?
CAN'T YOU SEE????

I'll be there
I'll be there
I will be there;
To heal their sorrow
To beg and borrow
Fight tomorrow.
Can't you see?

People die everyday dude, just face it, all the legends are getting old, the average life expectancy is about one's 70s, where most of these artists are.

Shit sucks, but that's life.

naw, I hate to sound like a ROCK WILL NEVER DIE type but hard rock will come back into the mainstream at some point. There's always going to be the human instinct of wanting something hard and appealing. Sure, hardcore hip hop is still somewhat mainstream, but its not so applicable to the poor white kids still running around.
>>
a bullet had found him
his blood ran as he cried
no money could save him
so he laid down and he died

what a shame
>>
>>63255686
I don't think so, but then again it's not really the mainstream that bothers me, it's the disappearence of rock in the undeground that really saddens me.
>>
>>63253038
yeah I had forgotten how gorgeous "take a pebble" is. and "knife-edge" is such a banger

>Phil Collins and his backup
I really fucking hope this is bait. Peter Gabriel was by far the most talented member of Genesis. They became bland pop after he left.

And if you think Collins is untalented I suggest you listen to some Brand X.

>>
>>63266690
Okay, they didn't immediately become bland pop but it eventually happened and Collins was the one leading the band when it happened so he gets most of the blame.

I don't think Collins is untalented, I just think Gabriel is more talented.
