>board is obsessed with being perceived as elite and next level music experts

You guys understand this board is a joke right?
XXYYXX SYNTH

>uses vague and meaningless non-music adjectives
So you're saying he's a normal person?
>>63240968
It's more that he doesn't know music theory or much at all about how music works.
>>63241020
You don't need to know music theory to have opinions about music
>>63241059
I agree, but you really should know music theory or at least be really good at playing an instrument if you're going to be elitist about music.
>>63241093
Fantano isn't elitist you are
>>63240834
>when the strawman so supreme you let out a scream
>>63241107
No man, this board is elitist and pretentious as fuck and almost none of them actually know nothing about music.
There are constantly people genuinely praising 4 chord pop songs as really good and impressive taste without realizing that it is far less complicated than the rock song they just called simple and undeveloped taste in the same thread.
This board is full of shit.
>>63241251
You're wrong
>>63241251
Im really sorry you got called a faggot for listening to Tool
>>63241251
you're right, this board is full of shit. You know what's a great place for discussing music ? Reddit. So let's go there and never come back to /mu/, okay ?
>>63241251
You are objectively wrong here, sir.
>>63241251
yea today's music is such shit. Just dump pop music, these kids don't know real music or the skill it takes to make it. Bring back real music, nirvana, TOOL, RATM, the list goes on....
>>63241312
>>63241314
>>63241488
I don't expect you to realize that your indie jam which is "developed taste" is as complex as a Katy Perry song because you clearly don't understand music.
>>63241342
I don't like their points system but it's better than this.
>>63241565
Not what I'm saying, there's plenty of good modern rock music.
>>63241724
>there's plenty of good modern rock music
and there's plenty of good non rock genres
>>63241724
>there's plenty of good modern rock music.
I don't believe you. Name it.
>>63241724
I understand music, so much so that I don't think arbitrary complications like odd time signatures, extensive harmonic progressions, or key/scale changes necessarily create a good song. It speaks more as to how much you can do with a single note or how creative you can be within a single 4 chord progression and still be able to express a variety of moods. Can you create a sad song in C Major? If you don't know how to do that, you have no place in judging pop music simply off of a chord progression alone. The intricacies are found within the details of the music, not the overall structures that create it.
>>63241724
Arguing that one type of music is good or bad is pointless because music is subjective.
>>63241859
I'm answering you because you're the only one worth answering.
These songs and artists aren't even that level of complexity, I'm talking straight up 4 chord pop songs that sound indie because of their style and instrumentation being revered as developed taste while dynamic and relatively complex songs are written off as undeveloped because they don't like the genre, dressed up as a criticism as the music's actual quality because they don't know any better.
>>63241928
I'm not talking about people saying they like or don't like something, I'm talking about people critiquing the actual complexity of a song who aren't qualified to make that judgment.
