my advice is to just give in and start exploring the same genre as he likes. if you can find music that you both like, then there won't be a problem and you will probably become good friends in the process too. i didn't like rap when i went to college, but i embraced it and taught my friends a lot and i learned a lot about popular music from them in the process. maybe he'll help you actually make some friends and enjoy the college experience
