Why did they choose to put trash songs like these on albums that otherwise would be GOAT

Because, despite vocal and instrumental talents, the other four/five Beach Boys as songwriters and arrangers were generally subpar compared to Brian, and as a result their output as a democratic unit was much less consistent than when Brian was in charge.

Id argue Dierdre is the worser Sunflower song. It even sounds like it was recorded during different sessions or even a different year..

Deirdre's the best by a fucking mile

ok tied. But Deirdre is definitely close to the best on that album, and the fact that Bri-Bri had a hand in writing it shows

Got To know the woman is perfectly fine.

It's fucking unbelievable that they Student Demonstration Time made it on Surf's Up and Dennis's, Wouldn't It Be Nice To Live Again, 4th of July and Brian's version of Awake weren't even released at the time.

The way I see it, is that the two songs mentioned in the OP is where the Beach Boys tried to take advantage of rock and roll (which they were marginally good at in rock's embryonic stages) however on their classic records, their baroque, psychedelic records, they hinted at something much more substantial.

That fucking sweet, mushy baroque sound Brian perfectly conveyed on Smile. They should have worked on evolving that, instead of fucking around with "rock" tracks.

Dennis is underrated as fuck, his songs are so good

Sometimes I feel like the music Brian was making on Pet Sounds and SMiLE was almost too good to be listened to by human ears. Its fucking beautiful man. Stuff like Til' I Die, Can't Wait Too Long and Time To Get Alone are pretty god tier as well.

and fuck I wish I knew one person who loved the Love You/Adult Child era as much as I do :(
