I agree. Give it some balls. Drums shouldn't sound like they are coming from a Push 2 demo by someone in a Korg t shirt. Spacing is nice though.

Think about limitations of hardware, especially in terms of signal processing. Sending your bass, hats and rides to a distortion bus, then hi passing the bass out so it's just crunchy percussion that reacts to your bass is a good idea. You can then get creative with a few more buses and feed things in and out throughout your arrangement.

how did ben ufo get so recognised and popular? serious question

obvious he's talented and has taste, but what made him break through as much as he did?
>>
>>63225124
because he partly runs a fucking popular label how hard is that to understand
>>
>>63225150
he co runs it with pearson sound and pangaea, and people assume ben is the best dj a lot of the time due to him not producing
>>
>>63225124
cuz hessle
he doesnt get that much attention really journalists love to get up his ass to push their own shitty dj careers
>>
>>63225124
Ben UFO reminds us of a simple but easily forgotten fact: DJs can play literally anything they want. As he leaps from obscure house to modern techno to garage to Afrobeat to whatever else, the Hessle Audio co-founder is intent on capturing the dance music zeitgeist in its entirety. But as impressive as all that is, it's his uncanny ability to shape these sounds into something rich, dynamic and utterly party-rocking that makes him one of the world's best DJs.

Apparently

Ben UFO is among a handful of specialist DJs who possess the talent, care and breadth of taste required to project their personality solely through other people's records. FABRICLIVE 67 showcases the different aspects of the music that he stands for. Accordingly, it is not a straightforward mix of house, bass music or techno; it is an indicator of where we have come from, where we are at, and a statement of future intent.

>>
>>63226146
I know a few guys who went into music journalism from school and uni and they were always the guys who cared more about band t-shirts than actually finding good music.

The kind of guys who realised it took more effort than buying a microkorg and noodling for a few hours to make good music.

So they sit on a macbook grasping at any chance of superiority while telling themselves they work in the music industry, when really they just sell fucking adverts. The guys who barely went out, wore shit clothes and autism trainers are the ones who are artists and industry professionals now.

I personally like the ones where interesting and/or technical stuff are included in it: where a sample came from, what gear/process was used, how does this album fits in the artist's discography etc. I find those "storytelling" or "this is how I feel about each song" to be circlejerks for the most part. I don't care about your feelings on the album, or rather, I don't midn you telling me how you feel about it but don't make it the focal point. But there is always exceptios u kno, if the guy has an interesting writing style I can dig a lot of very "personal" reviews "tbqhwy"

What are you implying here?

>girl I briefly know expressed some interest in me lately
>gave me her fb, told that we should hang some time
>write to her and suggest places to go but she is either working or out of town or whatever

Is she seriously busy or just trying to brush me off now? Why would she express interest in me in the first place if the latter is the case? Women are so inconsistent

>It was the beginning of anti-social techno—the first wave of true loners and misfits making really powerful individualist techno, actually mentally disturbed individuals.

who are they now? who in your opinion can stand and represent us, the weirdos? who can stand against the kraviz, the dettmann, the ben klock of the world and put back a bit of freakiness into nightlife?

legowelt? objekt?

this is cool. elements are all really nice.

i would widen the mix. a simple send with something like crystaliser on a doubler setting would work great to feed your vocals and pads into. maybe a touch of stereoed reverb for the drums to brighten it up, sidechained with kick and snare but that's more personal taste. for club play i reckon it's fine.

not really my style so idk but for the love of god put the snare on 2 and 4 louder than the additional hits (velocity), or accent whatever your principal hits are for that matter

Now this is the original ruffneck 'Ardcore sound, hear dis!

(I feel a faint fear that I'm slowly running out of good sounding obscure tunes and that the future is uncertain - but our coastlines are not yet flooded, so who cares)
