I've got some money to finally buy a decent pair of speakers for listening to music

But I cannot decide what to get

$400 is my max budget, and these are the suggestions I found so far

Help me out please

also do I need an additional dac unit for increased sound quality if I only have a mobo so far?
>>
why do you want to buy studio monitors OP?
>>
>>63214157
I don't know, everyone recommends them highly

also I dont think the audioengine a5+ is a studio monitor
>>
>>63214179
Get the Audioengines.
>>
Tbh if you're not some pro then don't worry about reading the bank. You won't be able to tell the difference after a point

I have a pair of klipsch speakers I got from goodwill, 10 dollars, that blow away all others I've owned (including AE)

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/klipsch-reference-4-bookshelf-speakers-pair-black/6833016.p?id=1219239884619&skuId=6833016&lsft=ref:212,loc:1&ksid=6312ced5-2da8-49e5-bd9a-930a7d6374a6&ksprof_id=11&ksaffcode=pg353&ksdevice=m&ref=212&loc=1

My recommendation. Granted I wouldn't buy from best buy but those are good speakers

Just go on craigslist and look for name brand stuff. You can't go wrong and you won't spend more than $100 if you do some searching.

THere's some good diy kits available if you want really make your money stretch.

>ipl audio

do you have an amp?

I like my lsr305s. Very neutral.

To give an idea of my taste, my headphones are sennheiser momentums and I like those, too.

I have some 8 year old Bose desktop speakers, too. Those are way too bass heavy, but I don't do serious listening on those to care to replace them.

chill you fucking autist
>>

I found a pair of nose acoustimass II at goodwill, 4 dollars, working (I think that's the model)

They sound decent but the bass just drowns everything out. I tried to hook it to a cheap 2.1 sub for pcs and have all the bass go to the sub instead
>>
Just gonna hijack this and ask, I'm a dirt poor piece of shit, so is the Mackie CR4 or Presonus Eris 4.5 any good?
>>
>>63214674
presonus eris 4.5 I reckon would be better than the 5's becuase the 5s are ported speakers. They seem well liked for their price
>>
>>63214283
You don't have to be a pro to know when something sounds good.
>>
>>63214073
I have the middle monitors and they're the best thing I own, the highs are crisp and the bass is good too

I don't have experience with others though so whatever, probably the JBLs are still the best reviewed
>>
>>63214674
cr4's pretty good imo
>>
>>63214073
lsr305s are studio monitors. they'll have a flat frequency response, which is objectively good for mixing but subjectively good for listening. I like flat signatures better but a lot of people like the more v shaped signature you'd get from the audioengine speakers which are tuned for casual listening. That's not to say the lsr305's are impossible to use for casual listening - in fact they're basically the exact same thing. The only difference really is what kind of sound you like.

do you want powered monitors or passive speakers + amp?
>>
>>63217789
powered probably, I know even less about amps

also /g/ is the most unhelpful board on this entire imageboard
>>
>>63218181
then get the JBLs. you might want a preamp so you can control the volume easier.

like this for example?
>>
>>63218299
that looks like a DAC/Amp. might work, no clue if the knob is just for the headphones or also the rear RCA ports.

I was thinking something like the Schiit Sys.

Do you already have a DAC & Amp? do you use headphones much?
>>
>>63214073
M-audio for sure
>>
>>63214073
No matter what you buy ur gonna say to urself "this doesnt sound like 400 bucks"
>>

>Do you already have a DAC & Amp
only my motherboard
> do you use headphones much?
I'd like an interface that has a better dac than my mobo for both my speakers and headphones, can drive a 250 ohm headphone decently, and has a mic input as well

and not too expensive, I'm on a tight budget
