Listening to Alice right now, because I look forward to hearing I'm Still Here every time.

What's he waiting for?
I love Tom Waits, man, he's one of my favorites ever.
>favorite album
That changes constantly. My favorite ever is Swordfishtrombones but right now I guess the albums I'm listening to most are Mule Variations and Rain Dogs.
>favorite song
Again, that changes but right now it's probably this.

>tfw "Hang Down Your Head" isn't infinity minutes long
>>63174477
>I'm Still Here
One of the greatest songs of all time famu.
Mule Variations is my favorite atm.
>>63174756
I don't frequent /mu/ very often, but when I do, I never see him in any threads or in the catalogs, even though he seems to be universally liked, if not at least respected. Why is that?
>>63174872
he's an amazing musician anon pretty simple
>>63174477
Magnificent songwriter, lyricist and unpredictable performer. He's easily up there with Dylan and Cohen.
>favorite album
I don't think I have a single favorite. Small Change for early output, Rain Dogs for middle output, Real Gone or Bone Machine for later output.
>favorite song
That's really mood-dependent. Tom has a favorite song for anything I might be feeling.
>>63174872
Everybody agrees he's great, so there's no shitposting to rile up discussion.
>>63174872
theres not much to be said, most people respect him as an artist and enjoy his music.
i fucking love tom waits, i think real gone is my favorite album. i think its got the best grouping of solid tracks.
alice is great too. most people like swordfish trombones or rain dogs the most but those are a little too heavy on the marimba for me. sounds too nightmare before christmas-y
>>63174872
Nah some people actually hate him. If he starts getting threads more people will start disliking him or at least being vocal about it.
Anyway, favorite albums Real Gone. Hard to say favorite song. Different for different moods.
>fav song
It depends. But recently, this one is just crushing every lasting piece of soul I held within my heart in every conceivable way
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg7wRhtYXnw
love his voice but also how he doesn't rely on it and make it a gimmick
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKJV8VjyKeQ
Please tell me I'm not alone when i say I cried to his cover of "Silent Night"
>>63175035
Yeah but even by /mu/ standards he is liked. I mean there are some people on here that probably hate him but that's to be expected on /mu/.
Anyway "Anywhere I Lay My Head" is one of the few songs that really makes me feel sad.
>>63174872
We have plenty of threads about him. He takes a while to make albums these days, and since his last one was in 2011 there isn't a whole lot of news to discuss here at the moment.

And, y'know, I thought about this exact answer immediately after I posted and felt a little stupid. Regardless, It's nice to see a Tom Waits appreciation thread.
>mfw when he's going to die in your lifetime and you've never seen him live
h-have you seen him play live, anons? How was he?
>>63175145
He did two covers on a Blind Willie Nelson tribute album just recently.
His take on John the Revelator deserves to be in the fucking doomsday vault.
>>63174477
He's gone off the deep end twice, first in 1992 with Bone Machine, then again in 2004 with Real Gone.
I think those are his twin masterpieces.
>>63175210
For fuck sake, why are you even thinking like that? Why so morbid, man? I haven't seen him live yet but I've been a major fan for many, many years. I'll see him live eventually.
I've heard mixed reviews of his shows. Apparently though, he's usually amazing as you'd expect.
>>63175335
I think like that because the man ravaged his body with alcoholism, chain smoking, and god knows what else. We just lost Lemmy Kilmister, David Bowie and Glenn Frey in rapid succession, god knows who's going to be taken next. I just hope Tom lives for many more years and continues to make music for everyone to love.
>>63175450
Tom cleaned up his act pretty early on. I think he's been sober since Foreign Affairs.

I work at a record store, and one of my customers is a down and out older gentlemen, very cultured. He buys a lot of classical albums, and is well spoken, and clearly strongly educated. I turned him on to Tom Waits, and after a few purchases, he told me that Waits changed his life. That he had never cried so hard to music as he did there. That he wished so much more for him and his ex-wife, and he thanked me personally for the catharsis that Waits gave him.
Just proof that Tom Waits really can change lives. God bless him.
Favorite album:Small Change (The one with Elvira topless on the front cover)
Favorite song: The Piano Has Been Drinking

I have to move away, and my fiancee, turned girlfriend, doesn't want to move with me.
