"Le wrong generation"ers have a point, popular music from the 60s and 70s generally had more thought and effort put into it that popular music today

If you believe this, you don't listen to a lot of music.

Music that is played on the radio has demonstrably less variation than ever before you underage pleb shits
>>
C'mon guys he has a valid point. Modern POPULAR music is notably more simplistic than popular music in those decades.

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/your-parents-are-right-modern-music-is-getting-louder-and-more-repetitive-6278364.html

This article is obviously biased but there's truth to the study itself

You guys do know that just because something's popular on 4chan doesn't mean it's popular in the real world right?
>>
>>63147444
oh look an article it must be true

Literally everyone knows these two albums. Unless you hang around in nursing homes or something you should realize that by now.
>>
>>63147495
if that's your thought process you need to seriously re-evaluate your life. READ IT RETARD.
>>
>>63147487
Are you actually trying to say TPAB isn't popular outside of /mu/? Do you go outside?
>>
OP's right, too much revivalist shit in popular rock.

Tame Impala, Courtney Barnett and all those fuckers are nothing special or new.

Think for once faggots.
>>
>>63147520
I have never met someone in real life who knows NMH. Everybody knows Kendrick though
>>
>>63147554

I did it, was stupid. Repetition (/=) Simplistic.Especially in art.

Neither does it reflect quality. I could listen to a thousands different shitting and spewing noises and it still wouldn't be as good as a simple beat.

hahahahahahaha

There is a clear divide as to what scruffy hipsters push and what the people actually listen to. Stay in school.
>>
>>63147603
To be fair all the people I met who know about NHM are also kind of cunts. So maybe they all were from /mu/.
>>
>>63147561
TPAB isn't popular with normies, they stick to GKMD. I've had people ask me to play Kendrick at parties and get pissed when I put on anything other than Backseat Freestyle.
>>
>>63147603
>>63147642

The only people I've met who know of NMH are into music more than your average Buddy Jim.

Normies don't know NMH, I didn't know about them before I discovered this place.
>>
>>63147611
But OP was talking about thought and effort put into the work by the artist which is more often than not a lot more than pop artists now put into it. I'm not saying more effort=good but his point still stands.
>>
>>63147433
That's because the music most often defended by le wrong generationers wasn't made for the radio. People ridiculously compare the lyrics of Stairway to Heaven and a Beyoncé song when Stairway was never a single.
>>
>>63147720
You can put way more effort into a simplistic piece of work than a non-simplistic one. Some of the worst media is too expansive.
>>
>>63147257
>>63147433
there's a point in here that pop music back in the day generally is better than pop music today, but you guys don't realize it's because marketing and commercialism hadn't been fully developed yet. it's not at all about the "thought" or "effort" put forwards by bands. Back in the 60s and early 70s there was never big commercial pushes by record labels. today you can't even get on radio if you aren't heavily marketed and pushed by someone. radio was better back in the day, but don't pretend that it's because bands today aren't trying.
>>
>>63147257
I understand your sentiment. Top 40 music in particular is worse today but there is still fantastic music around.
>>
>>63147720
A lot of pop music in the 60s was just made in drug-fueled improv sections. Modern pop music is made by producers who have been practicing making the catchiest, accessible music for years.

Max Martin or whoever knows way more about music than the Beatles or whoever

Nicki Minaj has a higher rate of good pop singles than she's given credit for.

Agreed it's all just classism when you come back to it. Poor people and uneducated people like music, so hipster scum pretend they hate it.
