Rodan - Rusty.

It's got all the best features of Spiderland.
>>
Rodan - Rusty is a must

For Carnation discography is a must, I highly recommend Marshmallows by them

Dave Pajo's solo career, especially Papa M: Live from a Shark Cage

Squirrel Bait (the band that came before Slint)

June of 44

Maybe some Unwound also

Indian Summer if you're into emo, but I'm straying a bit too far

just sift through some post-rock/hardcore stuff you can find, from RYM lists or elsewhere, there's a lot of hidden stuff out there that people keep finding out that have some of the shared pathos with Slint

If you like Spiderland you will definitely like this album. The only problem is a lot of people will say you shouldn't start Unwound with it.

It's got that dreary melancholy sound though, only thing is its tinged with more post hardcore and electronic in places.

Post-rock/math rock/post-hardcore

Do you guys think Slint had some influence from 80s punk/hardcore like Double Nickles on the Dime or Zen Arcade. I honestly think they did, and whatever influences they had they masked it well on Spiderland, it sounds very fresh and original.

Also, it's going to be 25 years old by the end of the month
>>
>>63099575
Yea
>>
>>63099761
I think their influence from hardcore punk was pretty fucking obvious, they even spell it out loud in the Breadcrumb Trail documentary.
Britt and Brian started out playing in the Louisville post-hardcore scene when they were what, 12-13?
>>
>>63099761
Wow really that's pretty sweet

holy shit really?

I've downloaded the 33 1/3 book about them, haven't gotten around to reading it, def want to see the documentary too
>>
>>63099761
Yeah, double nickels on the dime definitely had a massive influence on them, it's in the notes to the special edition of spiderland
>>
>>63099857
Yeah, their parents found it funny back then, you had all these massive hulking skinheads and then there are these two skinny preteens in the crowd.

I think Brian even commented that by the age of 15 he was tired of rock

I know you have never heard these albums. But just for a laugh tell me why these don't sound like Spiderland.
>>
>>63099241
Why would you want groups similar to a terrible one
>>
>>63099842
good recommendation, but it makes you sadly realize that nothing much else touches Spiderland really. Some of albums mentioned including yours miss the point with what Slint did and they seem overindulgent with their length and overall song structure, sometimes being close to an hour mark like Inindependence, while Spiderland had more to say and did it under a span of 40 minutes, which is poignant to tell you the truth.

>>

Decent argument. Glad I engaged with you. I understand Slint's music a lot better now.
>>
>>63099999
nice quints bro
>>
>>63099962
Do you like music which isn't overindulgent? than you probablely don't like music.
An artist must always make music for himself, others will choose to listen or not. Never really understand why people call music "overindulgent" when most music it's overindulgent.
