is TPAB the most important album in the history of black music?
Michael Jackson - Thriller
>>63082600
what do you fucking think
no
here's your (you)
wow americlaps awake already
>>63082600
I dont get the hype behind this album. Good kid maad city was a lot more enjoyable.
>>63082600 chuck berry??
>>63082600
i listened to half of it once and thought it was super boring. so i kinda hope not.
As far as cultural relevance, it probably is.
>>63082600
As far as I know (from this generation), yes. It could be relatable to blacks around the world.
It basically says the same thing N.W.A. and countless other rappers said 20 years before so not really.
>>63082627
this
>>63082600
What do you mean OP? Why is this album so important? It deals with black issues but so do a lot of other hip-hop albums.
>>63082826
Could you elaborate on this? I just want to know what you mean.
>The most successful album of all fucking time is made by a black person
Safe to say you're wrong, OP.
>>63082627
I guess because TPAB is more complex, musically and conceptually. Only listened to it a few times after it was released though, but I still listen to GKMC
>>63082627
jazz.
that's why people like it because of the jazz and it's conscious yet unpretentous lyrics
>>63082627
It gives the illusion of being challenging or dense, but really it's just unenjoyable. Hip hop has certain elements that make it work, and Kendrick removed some of them, and, no surprise, it didn't work. Not like anything in here is original anyway.
Not all of the songs are bad, but the "concept" of this album is shit. I hope he completely abandons jazz/funk/soul influences and politicized lyrics for his next album.
>>63082600
nope, that would be some blues or jazz album
Hip hop has done nothing positive for the black community
>>63084634
>I hope he completely abandons jazz/funk/soul influences and politicized lyrics for his next album.
I hope he does it move because it works perfectly. Love some Kendrick on jazzy beats.
Not even Kendrick's most important lol
UU>GKMC>TPAB>S.80
>>63084712
I don't know why people rate UU high but then rate TPAB low. UU is pretty much an expansion on TPAB.
Part of it's new release hype, but Radiohead /mu fans have been doing the same thing with Amnesiac and Kid A for years, so it's not exactly a new phenomenon.
>>63082600
That's not Bitches Brew
Hip hop is boring and uninteresting, jazz and blues are good examples of fantastic music by blacks
>>63084838
why bitches brew? it also have some white musicians palying in.
>>63082600
Not really, It was way too crude and all the songs have the same dingy jazz/funk sound to them
Plus in terms of socially concious hip hop something like pic related is much better
It only proves that we have a render to overrate what's topical.
>>63084270
>Michael Jackson
>black
pick one
>>63082600
Oh my god, no.
no, black people used to make actual good music
>>63085277
this
t. black
Hip hop has done nothing but ruin our reputation. Before, it was cool to look up to the jazz cats and the guys playing in the local blues band. Now it's cool to look up to criminals who glorify killing and selling drugs i.e. making black communities worse . And don't even give me that "they're forced to do it by the system" bullshit because I was raised in a bad neighborhood and I went to college and I'm now a contributing member of society.
>>63085508
bullshit, you are a skinny white false flagger. fuck off.
>>63085508
>t. black
>>63085523
is your opinion of black people so low that you honestly don't believe a black man would be using 4chan? Y'know we're not fantasy characters, we do exist outside of your perceived image of what a black person should be
>>63085508
Did you ever get beat up for "acting white"? I hear that's a thing.
>>63085577
I believe plenty of black people use 4chan, but that guy said exactly what every whiteboy who doesn't like hip-hop says about hip-hop yet claims to be black. so either he's the biggest Uncle Tom ever, an idiot, or he's not black. I suspect the last one is true.
>>63085658
did you really just call me an Uncle Tom? Holy fucking shit do not ever reply to me again. That's 1000x more offensive than calling me a nigger
>>63082600
no
james brown was probs the most important black artist but he wasnt really an album driven guy
>>63085699
I don't believe you are black, if you are that same guy.
Its the most racist
>>63085777
>let me tell you about your people
>no, really, it's OUR fault black communities are bad. It's not the fact that crime is actively glorified in our neighborhoods every day by our own people, it's our fault for oppressing you!
On behalf of all black people, you don't have to feel guilty for being white anymore. Most of us laugh at you
>>63082600
Really, just because it was released during this whole blacklivesmatter era?
>>63085848
the fuck? I didn't say any of that, what does that have to do with music?
I'm trying to say that acting like black music was more cool before hip-hop got big is stupid, as if there haven't been tons of amazing hip-hop albums that pushed boundaries and shit. I mean yeah maybe in an objective sense jazz was more experimental/creative but that's mainly because of the time period, by the time hip-hop came along almost everything had already been done so experimentation in hip-hop is not quite on the same level as the most experimental or technically skillful jazz albums. That doesn't mean hip-hop is just trash though.
and I don't know why there's so much crime in black neighborhoods, I'm not educated on that shit. I just know music.
>>63084002
Not him but I think they mean it is important in regards to talking about society's problems.
Thriller is an important album, but it doesn't tackle any problems in society, it is accessible and doesn't require any deep thought, whereas an album like Marvin Gaye - What's Going On, does.
Kendrick made an album that explores the problems in society about race and yet still manages to make it accessible for the general population.
I think it's the most important black album, culturally.
>>63084723
Not as preachy and a lot easier to take in
I'm disappointed in you /mu/
