Duos allow for a new perspective. When you're creating music it's really all about your mindset. "Is this beat really cool or have I just listened to it one hundred times too much?". Two people seem to compliment and build on eachother when creating music. Three just becomes too much I think.

You can just start from the beginning, though I personally find Orblivion, Cydonia, and Orbserver In The Starhouse to be my top 3.
The Orb gets a bit more ambient when Thomas Fehlmann started working on Orb albums (Orbus Terrarum being the first). In my opinion, this is when they started becoming really unique. However, you can start from the beginning if you want.
