Who's the best classical composer and why is it Chopin?
>>
Who is the biggest faggot and why is it OP?
>>
Wagner
>>
>>62603520
I fall into the Debussy camp as far as what I like to hear from classical music, but saying that anyone other than Mozart is GOAT is fraudulent.
>>
Further proof that Mozart is underrated.
>>
>>62603520
Bach.

You have to write for more than one instrument to be a great composer. (2 concerti hardly count)
>>
I think it's pergolesi.
>>
>>62603520
Who told you it's Chopin? There are also other great composers like Beethoven, Liszt, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi. Rachmaninoff, Schumann, Mendelssohn and many more.

>>
>>62604280
>Rachmaninoff
>great composer

> Who is the biggest faggot and why is it OP?
It's because OP doesn't like any other composers than Chopin.
>>
>>62604280
>Rachmaninoff
>great composer

lmao
>>
the only reasonable answer is Bach come on why do people pretend there's a race for anything but second place at this point?
and why do people pretend that non-Germans even break the top 5?
>>
>>62604330
>Rachmaninoff
>great composer

Who's the best classical composer and why is it not Rachmaninoff?
>>
>>62604359
> why do people pretend that non-Germans even break the top 5?

Because Italian and Russian can break the top 5.
>>
Hans Zimmer
>>
>>62604438
wait, who in the following list is an Italian or Russian?

Bach
Mozart
Beethoven
Wagner
Strauss
Webern
Lachenmann
>>
>>62604539
>Lachenmann
>Webern over Schoenberg
>>
>>62603520
Chopin is the Ben Folds of classical music.
>>
>>62604539
Italian :

Vivaldi
Palestrina
Puccini
Paganini
Monteverdi

Russian :

Tchaikovsky
Rimsky-Korsakov
Rachmaninoff
Khachaturian
Stravinsky
>>
>>62604576
i wouldn't put Lachenmann anywhere near the top 5 of all time, just thought i'd throw him in as my favorite contemporary composer since i realized the Teutonic tradition continues to dominate. and sorry, i think Webern's graceful, pointilistic masterpieces are much more interesting applications of Schoenberg's ideas, even if i love Pierrot lunaire and Schoenberg's string quartets.
>>
>>62604539
Here's a top 5 with only 1 german:
Josquin (Franco-Flemish)
Palestrina (Italian)
Tallis (English)
Bach (German)
Bartok (Hungarian)

Also Webern and Mozart were Austrian. Mozart was born in Salzburg (Austria) and lived most of his life in Vienna.
>>
>>62604539
> Lachenmann

80 years old.

LMAO
>>
why is schubert so underrated on mu ;__;

It's like you're trying to prove his point.

Bruckner or Wagner
Fight me.
>>
>>62604944
I just said 5.
Of course Mussorgsky, Borodin Scriabin... It's endless.
>>

I find a similar feel in both of them.
>>
>>62603897
Why is Mozart so celebrated? When I listen to him I just get bored, and multiple listens aren't rewarding at all. I realise that he was aiming for simplicity, but then why is he revered as a genius?
>>
>>62604280
Rachmaninoff is fucking shit, friend

I have no face

Also, how could Bach not be number one? He's written so much that is literally God Tier.

Mozart and Bach are the only good composers on that list. Also
>Strauss
>>
>>62605804
>dude counterpoint lmao
>>
>>62604280
Mendelssohn and Rachmaninov are not worthy to be in that list.
Bach, Händel, Rameau, Couperin, Scarlatti jr. are all more deserving of a spot.

I really just can't get into Chopin, I should probably have another go at it since it has been a while. It's taken me a while to grow into 'enjoying' solo piano pieces, and I suspect that's why I've never particularly bothered with Chopin. He might make the piano sound pretty as a piano, but somebody like Liszt made it sound like more.

I'll probably have another listen through his stuff though. The preludes are generally ok, the nocturnes are certainly listenable, I can't really recall his concerti except for that piano+orchestral variations on La ci darem la mano.
