my point was that your feelings change too often to be able to pinpoint them with any sort of specificity. you don't enjoy an album exactly the same amount every time you go back to it. if your ratings have a specificity that can reflect slight changes in mood/preferences (i.e. today i enjoyed Loveless more than Madvillainy but yeserday i enjoyed the latter more because i was in the mood for hip hop) then the constant change in ratings would drive you insane. if you think your preferences are static and your first impression = every impression, you're kidding yourself.
the only reasonable solution is that you have to take the approximated average of all of your listening experiences with a given piece of music, which is so unspecific that it only matches up with blocked ratings that lack such a high degree of specificity.
the one way around that conclusion is to say you rate "objectively" and not based on personal feeling which we all know is total bullshit

yes that's how i rate, but i have almost never had a different opinion about an album after a second or third listen than i did from the first. The few exceptions did not change much 1 point out of ten max.
i'm not trying to claim that my ratings are perfect, but there are a lot of albums that i have very specific feelings for and i would like the opportunity to be as accurate as possible.
