posted this a couple times, just a hip-hop beat i made with no sample etc. feel like im nearly there with the mix, but any suggestions would be v appreciated! also do interested if anyone thinks the little synth introduced at 1:25ish is too quiet? i want it to be in the background but unsure whether it should be any louder...also any advice/ideas for the bridges/transitions would be good coz theyre a little bland atm.

THANKS IN ADVANCE! and will check some stuff ITT when i have a litle break from work!

>>
>>62569910

>Kick sounds a bit weak to me

really? the kicks pretty much the loudest thing in the mix, parallel compressed, most things are sidechained to it, and is pretty clear on my set up. what u listening on? also im intending for it to sound a little muffled

> shaker that comes in at 32 seconds is too straight

again that, wasn't something i was particularly concered about, do u just mean doesnt have enough swing? i was considering using another bit of perc that was a bit more off beat/swingy to contrast that sleigh bell/shaker sound ur talking about. do you feel this would help the issue u had with it?

thanks for the feedback tho, ginna try another layer of perc today i think

introduce a contrasting chord progression, or keep hanging on the first chord of the progression, or start a diatonic descent in fifths one third from the tonic, lots of things you can do.
>>
>>62568931
the relative major/minor is there for you bro...just modulate into that shit for 8 bars or something. also maybe just try a pad with much simpler voicings which alludes to the sequence without decribing the quality of the chord in as much detail.

ok for boom bap, breaks! theres tons of 'break packs' out there but its better to find your own so you dont end up with the same dum sounds as every other bedroom producer with that break pack. there are some good producer kits i got too, like the dilla one, a dr dre one, etc. should be easy to find by googling.

vengence is pretty essential for club music but again breaks are your friend for house music too!

>>62570763
Personally, I would change up your snare sound and boost it just a bit.

Also change your main distorted riff or whatever earlier in the track. That's just me though; I'm a sucker for varriation.

>>
>>62572400

theyre refering to old drum machine hardware that you can now get as sample packs. roland tr-808 etc. is there full name. and yeh theyre all somewhat synonomous with certain genres. the 303 is the drum machine of acid house. 808's have the boomy kicks heard in trap, were used a lot in early hip=hop and just generally all over the place. download a few and ull hear the difference immediately

Analog drum machine, staple of hip-hop and many other electronic genres

When something comes into the 2i2's input, does it immediately play that shit back out, or is that completely up to the DAW?

Like if I just send the output right back in, is it gonna get nasty or can I just go into FL and silence whichever track gets the input?
>>
>>62569106
knob shit up
>>
>>62588225

If you have direct monitoring switched on, yes it does just go into then straight out of the interface.

If you have direct monitoring switched off then it's up to how you set up your DAW for monitoring - latency comes into play when you do this since the input signal is going into your computer, being processed, then sent to your outputs.
