Post the tracks you're working on, discuss general music composition.

>/prod/ wiki - still looking for contributors (wink, wink, WINK)
http://mu-sic-production.wikia.com
There's a severe lack of DAW descriptions in the wiki. If you're good with your tool of choice, consider writing a paragraph about it.

Remember to use clyp.it to post your tracks/WIP : posting a clyp.it is just providing sound for a question, posting a soundcloud link is making self-advertisement and the thread doesn't need that.

Remember to check other peoples' clyp.it links to keep the thread healthy
>>
Hey. Reposting from last thread, since it was dying and no one answered:

Would like some opinions on this. I posted something on another /prod/ thread about 5 months ago just when I was starting to learn how to produce. I'm still learning, but I've gotten much better.

the sample and the drums seem a little out of time at points, also that synth or whatever it is that comes in seems to clash tonally with the rest of the song

nice king krule sample though
>>
>>62549759
Cool you recognized it. The "synth" is a part of the song too, at the 2:40 mark.

i'm just getting into sidechaining samples to synthesizers (or the other way around?) so that as the sound of the sample rises then it causes the synth to do so as well. you can get some really crazy sounds with this. I know that tim hecker uses this method but if anyone can give any other examples of artists who do it or any key tips about it then that would be highly appreciated.

How the fuck do you automate one entire pattern in fl studio?

Goddamn this shit is retarded. Shit should be so simple to do fucks sake
>>
>>62550335
Automate what? Articulate your problem clearly.
>>
>>62550335

AN ENTIRE PATTERN.

1 entire pattern as in adding automation to the collection of tracks that make up the pattern i am trying to automate.
>>
q to all- where did you learn the most about producing and what would you recomend to learn first
>>
>>62550493
Not true. Mild sidechain compression is a tool everyone who mixes their own stuff has to use.

Equipboard. Look up your favorite artists, go to each plugin and watch all the interviews or studio sessions or whatever. But most of all, experimentation and fucking around.

I want'o know how to make EAI, I mean, which programa are better for this type of thing
>>
>>62550660
Any DAW should get the job done. Look at either FL Studio or Ableton. However you're gonna need to invest on some external plugins. FL's native ones tho are fine af.
>>

This is very much a work in progress. I tried writing the song before picking the sounds this time, but I don't think it works that well. It was worth the try.

At the point you're hearing, I'm still picking sounds. The most obvious is that I'm still lacking a good sabi.

Anyway, enjoy.

I've been producing for 6 months now and have an experimental style of producing, I dont use samples in my work at all. My DAW of choice is Ableton live Suite 9, I also use a Akai Professional MPK Mini Mk II Controller to perform.

-------------
I'm working on an album right now here is a demo track that I am working on, that may or may not make it on the final cut of the album.

Feedback is always welcome, love hearing what you guys have to say.

We appreciate it if you can use clyp.it to upload, rather than Soundcloud so we can keep the thread cleaner of people who dump their sounds just increase their listen count without contributing. Because admit it, there are a lot of fags out there who drop messages with links like you just did without ever returning or replying. Just be a good sport and use clyp.it.

>>
>>62552940
I've never knowingly tuned my drums. I don't know why you would tune what is (most of the time) essentially just white noise with other bits thrown in.

Same for kicks; it's just a frequency sweep. Why would I tune that?
>>
>>62552990
heh, you don't?
>>
>>62552940
Depends, it all has to do with context.

>>62553018
>essentially just white noise

Well, in trap or dubstep (pls don't kill me, just the two first examples that come to mind), there's these reaaaally resonant snares that actually have a tonality.
>>
>>62552990
I highpass my kicks and klayer them with a sine wave.
I don't want phasing in the low end.

Bad example because there's no sidechaining

>>62553018
>essentially just white noise with other bits thrown in
Real drummers tune their snares, so why shouldn't producers who make music on the computer?
Of course, it depends on the genre and the track.
>>
>>62552940
depends on the sample. if the decay is quick enough to where you can't hear the tone of the snare then there's no point.
>>

Any synth as long as they have more than one oscillator, detune and envelope controls.

I'm looking for lush, crystal-like icy pads, not really detuned saws washed with reverb and LP filters. I guess additive or FM should do it?

The reference manual

University was also pretty decent, but by that time I had already been producing for 10 years, so mostly stuff I already knew on the production side. Picked up some nice EQ tricks through.
>>
>>62556106

I think I might, but omnisphere is a rompler isn't it? My crappy laptop doesn't have enough space, I'm leaning more towards synths and stuff.

I'm using synth1 now mainly, it works nice for warm pads but I struggle to get crystal sounding stuff with it. I'm going to try out dexed.

I remember when I used to pirate FL, there was this plug in called Morphine that I really liked. I wonder if there's anything like that out there?

Hey senpai I'd like to get start making some r&b anyone with experience know any tutorials that I should peep? I have some very limited experience with fl studio so I imagine that's what I'll be using. So if it's a more universal tutorial I'd appreciate that too. Anything that'd put me in the right direction of just becoming a good producer.

I know some music theory by virtue of playing the guitar and piano to a less than spectacular degree. I've just gotten tired of writing sappy white guy on guitar songs.
