Yeah, I've never understood the hate this album received.
Controversial opinion, but I like the singular ambient pieces on this album more than the ones on Garbage.

I used to think it was their worst album because it sounds really rushed and a lot of the drum samples sound really generic. Now I think it's one of their best. It has great replay value, great jams.

that's good! track/album rating threads are pretty boring imo and it's pretty obvious to me that people have wildly differing opinions on ae - that's the appeal, really.
but you're right in that there seems to be "favorites" that get more discussion. actually, i reckon disc 1 in general (apart from fleure and bladelores) is kind of underrated. most fans i talk to seem to gravitate to disc 2 .

i would love ae to do more of this sort of overt sampling - they're really quite good at it (rob's a pretty good scratcher going by his hip-hop mixtapes). would love a full album/ep of bangers like deco loc. gescom has been hitting the spot for me recently for this reason

My favorite is Oversteps, conventional enought but it has that ae feel.
Confield is 2nd, but Bine is a really mediocre track in the middle of such a perfect album.

Yeah, love that one. Most of their remixes are excellent - especially in the 90s (think they've said they stopped doing so many cause they felt they were giving away too much good material to other artists, lol). One of my favs is that Schaft one, but it isn't on youtube atm.

Oh man, Bine is one of my favorite tracks off Confield. Completely sinister. Very organic quality to it. That little "melody"/progression that starts at 2:40 is lovely - very melancholic and totally shifts the mood of the track.
Draft has some tracks that I'm not fond of, but I do not believe it to be mediocre. Lol, 61E.CR sounds so trap-ish.

But could someone try and help me see the appeal of runrepik? I think it's the only track I've never liked at anypoint on XI. That goofy bass-line? The lazer sound effects? I dunno lads. Were they trying to make their version of a footwork tune?

Well, I know they aren't actually lazer sounds, but it's the only descriptor I could think of lol. Sort of reminds me of a similar effect they used on newbound.
I dunno, it just sounds wonky and too cluttered to me, but I suppose that's the point. I do like it rhythmically - that aspect I like. Oh and the vocal samples that come in later. I think part of my issue might be the placement; for me it seems like it would sit better on disc one. But yeah, Exai slams hard.

It's widely considered to be their worst amongst the fanbase tbqh. It's definitely their most divisive. I really like it myself, I agree with the other anon that it has incredible replay value. It incrementally gets better for me.

Hey man, I didn't say I agree! Just what I've noticed looking here/WATMM/RYM etc. not that it really matters anyway, I think each are great in their own way.
I feel no need to compare Quar and Incunabula because they're completely different -separated by 15 years- and I feel like listening to one over the other depending on my mood. Also, I'll never FULLY understand what Incunabula achieved in context - I was just born a few days before its release so I wasn't there for it. But what seems sort of unimpressive nowadays was totally groundbreaking back then. So I try not to base everything off modern standards yknow, try to keep some perspective.

Sometimes I feel like Quaristice and Incunabula are linked in some weird way because they both share (imo) the most overt electro influence (along with TR - but that's a bit more strictly hip hop). Plus Incunabula was basically a compilation of old tracks, while Quar is like a retrospective release of all the live jams and material from the Untilted tour. I think there are parallels, though they are admittedly tenuous at best :)
Of course Quaristice also has a bunch of ambient and musique concrete inspired tracks thrown in as well, but it has some of their most straightforward dance jams since Incunabula/Anti/Anvil Vapre.
