In a perfect world, the 1970's would have ended with Punk dying and Disco surviving.
Despite what mainstream society and pretentious punks have told you, search in your heart and you know it's true. Disco was too good to last.
tl;dr, Punk Rock sucks and Disco is highly underrated.
they both suck
No one cares
disco evolved into house music you stupid plebe
>>62495260
Disco became House, which is still going today...
>>62495286
>dat anime ass
Disco Stu should have gone as Marilyn MacKoo!
Rock music ruins everything. Go on, try and deny it
>>62495309
Still. House and Disco are both superior to shitty pretentious pseudo-intellectual punk.
>>62495260
Lol what a shit opinion
>caring about those irrelevant genres
Granted, I'm far from a well-listened person, but I still don't think there was any other transition in the history of music as extreme as the one of rock music into its top progressive forms, say, from 1968 to 1974, over the course of just six years. Feel free to prove me wrong.
>>62495326
If by rock, you mean Alternative Rock in all of its forms, then yes.
Same goes for modern rock in general.
>>62495333
Indeed.
>>62495341
Your opinion is shit, you lazy jobless crust punk. You need a Bee Gees album.
Or this....Try and not groove to this, you butthurt little fish.

>>62495358
stop same faggiing to yourself you idiot
>>62495260
Yeah Disco was way better. Punk was just bored white trash kids and we all know nothing good comes of that.
>>62495260
disco was a natural extension of funk music, which then mutated into the common dance pop of today, as well as the beat in hip hop
punk was a natural extension of the VU/Stooges art band thing, which had a period of fierce sonic experimentation beginning in the late-70's, and never really went away either
trying to claim one is more important than the other - let alone better - makes zero difference to people that love both like myself.
>>62495409
This, punk is trash music for trash people
>>62495399
I'm not samefagging, just speaking my peace, little fish
>>62495415
Eh, you have a fair point but I find disco to be underrated and most punks to be insufferable
Time to boogie down!

>>62495409
>White trash kids
Most of the early punk bands were started by jews. The adolescents, the sex pistols, the ramones, the misfits, the list goes on. Punk is trash but it is not white trash. Disco was ok I guess.
>>62495260
>the 1970's would have ended with Punk dying and Disco surviving
Okay, first off, both survived, so you have nothing.
But more to the point, people admire authenticity. Disco was manufactured. Punk (besides The Sex Pistols) was real.
How can you butthurt little fishes compare pretentious garbage like The Clash and Dead Kennedys to the awesomeness of this!

>>62495354
>Granted, I'm far from a well-listened person
should have stopped there. lurk more
>>62495558
Punk was indeed real.
Really shit, that is.
>>62495466
while disco has become the backbone of so much music we take for granted today (it's underrated because it's so ubiquitous it's invisible), "punk" gets used as everything from a fashion statement to a statement of musical principles.
that said, I wonder how many people you could have met personally to make you so jaded against that word. punk still is one of the stronger approaches for trying new things with popular music forms.
Post avatar girls. Ty lee in particular
tl;dr, disco just became house, it never left.
Punk still sucks ass though, authentic or not.
>>62495575
In case you didn't notice, mine was a request for not recommendations, but interpretations/conclusions. I am trying to broaden my taste; I just asked for Anon's ideas what was the most radical evolution of a genre over the shortest period of time.
>>62495579
kek'd. couldn't help it.
you have shit taste, but that was funny.
>>62495611
>Likes punk rock
>Calls out others for shit tastes
If it isn't the pot calling the kettle black?
>>62495602
genres evolve faster now than they ever have. You're living in the most interesting time in history and you don't even know it.
>>62495611
>>62495632
>likes a genre of music
>someone else doesn't like that music
>instead of explaining why they just sling insults
>this is /mu/
>>62495260
It had to be said
Punk sucks too though, but then again, I'm the weirdo who likes bluegrass and folk music.
>>62495645
Do they? I find it possible that digitization (= lowering the entry barriers) of composing has led into relative domination of electronics which has led to obscuration of more theoretical and more eclectic stuff, borrowing from e.g. historical forms. In other words, people don't listen to as varied stuff as they used to.
punk was easier is all
>>62495710
In other words, there is a proliferation, but I think it is of moodless, deconstructionist sequences of tones designed solely to excite you that convey no emotion, which displace music with a message and that follows a recognizable form. And that it is sold, literally and figuratively, as progress.
>ITT: theorizing about the relative worth of genres that had their boom periods at least a decade before everyone commenting here was even born
>>62495710
>>62495811
If you really can't find anything out there that you can see as musical progress -- evoking emotion, following structures, and hitting all your g-spots -- you're not looking hard enough.
In other words: Lurk. More.
>>62495678
we have fun
>>62496199
Well, I've been reading 'most complex...', 'most mindbending...', 'most eclectic...', 'most genreblending...' threads for a year or so by now, and 97% of what I find is just Radiohead-tier electronic shit.
Exceptions, 'Nursery Cryme' or 'First Utterance' or 'The United States of America' or 'MDK' or 'Szobel' tier, are a once-a-month affair. (And no, I have favourites from the 2000s as well.) I just find it more productive to maintain my taste listening to my favourites than to dilute it, getting used to average stuff.
>>62496545
In short, I'm learning more and more acutely that 'give me your best ever' is meaningless without first preselecting a population with a compatible preference.
are you trying to say that punk didn't die in the 70's?
>>62497137
Punk was better off in the 80's than in the 70's.
disco was seen as a bastardization of funk music
what EDM is to dance music today, disco was to funk back then
>>62497964
classic dance music a shit unless u mean scatman/darude
modern EDM is everything 90´s wanted to be but couldnt deliver
>computer ded and with it all my anime ass and futa
What do I kill myself with, helium?
>>62497964
lol no, get some disco history lessons or something
>>62495864
+1
Why does everyone on this board think they are so fucking smart and their comment is the end all to conversations about music
