Any music reviewer who uses a number scale is poor in my book. Sure, the review might be fine, but slapping a number to it essentially demeans the art. If you want a website with well written music reviews, check out the quietus.

As much as I enjoy Fantano as a personality, I agree about number scales. It ruins the art entirely. There are heaps of incredible albums with tiny little down falls, but that doesn't suddenly make it a 6 or something. I don't like number or star scales at all.

Don't mind the guy himself, but he clearly listens through an album maybe once and makes lazy comments on his first impressions, there's nothing critically informative about them. And he usually doesn't like anything unless it's conventionally "catchy", he just does albums and artists he doesn't even like for the views, so they never had a chance in the first place.

In my own opinion, I really like the numberscale. This is because I basically use fantano as a filter. The albums I like and the albums he like overlaps quite a lot, meaning that if I listen to album he has ranked 8 or higher then there is a bigger chance of me enjoying it than randomly picking an album I see mentioned on /mu/
