so these threads are pretty much done, aren't they?
>>
>>62471757
Why?
>>
>>62471757
Not really. Just rendering a new noise which I'm gonna upload in a minute on my Bandcamp. Noise / Harsh Noise / HNW is alive and well, thanks.
>>
I hope I'm not shitting up your thread but can anyone explain this genre to me? Not trying to be a fag but I really don't get it, do people actually sit down and listen to this stuff? It's kinda painful
>>
>>62471909
trust me, live experience is much better. Noise is mostly physical in my opinion
>>
>>62471909
Well for example my girlfriend didn't know anything about this genre up untill an hour ago when I decided that I'd share what I've been doing sometimes when I tell her I'm busy producing stuff. So she had absolutely no idea what's this, but strangely enough, she liked it. She gave it a try. Just sat down and put her headphones on. After 2-3 minutes of listening without making an expression of disliking it, we commented on it and she told me that it's strange, new, odd, but she liked it. She told me it made her think about stuff, it made her feel in a specific way. Then I smiled, because my friend that's the whole point of this genre, to me atleast. To express yourself (if you are making it) while affecting people. If you're listening, just to relax if it's a more mellow kind of noise. If it's just brutal, really harsh sounding one, then to force out your inner pain and no matter how much anyone denies, everyone has that inner pain at times. To me, noise / harsh noise / hnw is about consciousness, unconsciousness, feelings, expressing, soul. Sorry if I sound too edgy or emo-faggot type of a guy, but that's just how I feel about this genre. Hope this helps even the tiniest bit.

threads barely ever make it past a few dozen posts
even those few dozen posts now consist largely of people posting ejaculation generator and tokyo anal dynamite for the millionth time, bandcamp promotion, as well as posts like >>62470812 or >>62471909, rather than anything substantial
a lot of the better posters seem to either be posting a lot less or have outright left

There are a lot of reasons people like noise. Some people enjoy the aggression of it and may find a catharsis through listening to it. Many of these fans found noise through metal, punk, or noise rock. Some people just enjoy the texture of the sounds. This is the same kind of enjoyment that jazz fans get from the timbre of a saxophone or rock fans get from the timbre of a guitar. In the case of noise that enjoyment is taken to the extreme and most other aspects of the music such as rhythm and melody are stripped away to have a pure exploration of timbre and texture. Some people also enjoy enjoy the conceptual nature of some noise projects. For example may of Dominick Fernow's projects are instrumental noise and industrial techno given context by descriptive song titles and creative artwork. This kind of multimedia aesthetic unity is something that is common in noise and is something many people look for in a quality noise project. Of course people can like it for more than one reason as well as other reasons I didn't list just like every other genre.

I gonna say fuck it and shill my stuff here. Just released two tapes today.

https://postlifeindustries.bandcamp.com/album/no-friends-club-lachesist-ep
>Side B harsh noise, side A grindcore if you're into that sort of thing.
https://postlifeindustries.bandcamp.com/album/ganzfeld-einschl-sse
>metaphysics/parapsychology-themed HNW

cop a tape, senpai.

>>62471445
This is really great. I like Static, I don't hear too much of that tonal quality in a lot of HNW. Also interesting how the cover art is consistent.
>>62471909
In the last thread someone posted something Knurl said in an interview:
>No, not really trying to prove anything, no big emotions going through my head or anything like that. It’s more just like, “This is what I do,” and I’m not making any sacrifices, or I’m not making any apologies for what I do, I’m just gonna go up there and tear it apart and that’s it. It’s not like I’m going through any kind of big spiritual thing. It’s just this gut feeling of some kind of emotion, to go up and do it. It’s not really trying to prove anything, not trying to win any fans or anything like that.
That's pretty much it for me. It sort of transcends explanation at a certain level. You're either drawn to noise or you're not.

Thanks! I really apriciate that. I like both the Grindcore and the HNW tapes. Also yeah I sometimes generate specific tones with constant frequency, kinda mix and match the Hz of the tones which consists of 4 or 5 oscillators. I just uploaded a new one by the way, you can check it if you want to.

such a great piece
>>
>>62471909
For me personally, it has nothing to do with how subjective and personal it can be. That's why I hate most harsh noise/hnw stuff, I'm all about if a specific noise work sounds good. That's why I tend to prefer "mainstream" noise artists, such as Prurient or IAALOBO. I'm also a heavy shoegaze fan and a lot of noise artists tends to eer on that side, too. I also prefer noise incorporated with other musica genres, such as rock or black metal (thus blackened noise).

I'll check in on this thread, but if you have any burning questions or want to submit: [email protected]

interesting site but I don't think the it would lend it's self to noise much
though I have to say, it bothers me that the site doesn't bother to say what the size of the circles mean, they don't seem to have any relation to the pitch, also there is no explanation of how the duration of the note is calculated either.
>>
>>62480126
I think the sounds produced are musical enough that you could possibly come up with something out of them. It's be easy enough to take samples, and use a number of cut/paste, distortion and layering methods to create noisy soundscapes out of them, or at least as an interlude or intro

Does anybody know any good Australia/New Zealand distro stuff for noise? Getting USA tapes and shit shipped over here is excruciatingly expensive.

Don't know about distro's, but Trapdoor Tapes has great stuff, with a few The Rita and Dead Body Collection tapes. I've kinda given up on ordering international releases because they're so expensive, and trying to focus on local stuff. I'll cop the expensive shipping for some things if it's something I'd really like though.

whys /noise/ stuck talking so much about dumb shit like HNW and "blackened noise"(not even the cool bands like gate to gate or whatever, but lame-ass Bndcamp-tier mashup shit) when there's so much noise out there that's actually good
>>
>>62495562
people like a certain type of noise, I guess
>>
>>62495562
wait, when i typed that out i realized that both HNW and blackened noise have that dumb gimmicky "pulse demon album cover" novelty factor(one could even say... meme?) to them that's a must for any band to get any sort of attention from ADD-ridden /mu/ goons
aight, i retract my question

vomir's not revered that much and i definitely didn't shit on merzbow, i shat on the mentality of the people who seem to have no idea the guy spent like 15 years already putting out records(and shaping the very medium of noise in the process) by the time the album with the funny eyestraining album cover came out

i just wish people would give a rest to RYM and /mu/ meme regurgitation and actually start looking for shit on their own

then again right now while writing this post i remembered that this is the way /noise/ has always been so i don't even know why i'm rambling about this shit

The making and lead-up to that big noise BC compilation from a few weeks ago has had a weird effect on this general. It feels like a lot of the older posters left and got replaced by those comp guys who otherwise never had any interaction with the threads and don't seem to know much about noise.
There's also been an increase in raging about random crap ITTs lately, I don't know what that is all about.

Hopefully /noise/ gets good again sooner rather than later, I remember it being pretty chill during the spring and fall of last year.

>>

>>
>>62498064
>soulseek
>>
>>62498178
There's been some pretty rough ones, yeah.
It feels like these threads are the most quality when they're the most insular, with just one consistent not-too-big crowd of posters interacting without much of a connection to outer /mu/ or any sort of activity beyond discussion(such as this BC stuff, or spoonfeeding the "what is noise and do you actually like it" posts).
The more the threads deviate from those rules, the wackier they seem to get.

And where did that Scumbag dude disappear off to? He was one of the better posters.

>i just wish people would give a rest to RYM and /mu/ meme regurgitation and actually start looking for shit on their own
A few posters actually do and some new posters eventually will do but the majority will most likely never do it. It's just the way it is.
