I've used amplitube but it was pretty shitty, I'm just looking for amps effects are not required, it0s just that my amp died and I need something to practice while I repair it or get a new one
>>
>>62445161
guitarix is good but takes a very long time to configure. You swap out tubes and such. It's not very user friendly. I'm surprised you didn't like amplitube, I saw a demo of the orange ad200 mk III bass amp and it was spot on. Maybe you need to work on your configuration.

>>
>>62445584
sorry, I haven't played with amplitude myself, just witnessed good results. On thing I would try is lowering your input level, a lot of times those sims expect a certain range of input and don't do well outside of that. whatever amp you use get a good clean tone first.

Depends on the guitar sounds. If you feel disgusted by the guitar sounds on Celtic Frost's Monotheist or on Goatsnake's Trampled under Hoof EP, there's no helping you.
But yes, a lot of 80's-90's thrash and death metal have shit tonez

As much as Doom/Stoner/Sludge sounds enormous live, I really dislike listening to records in this genre, they feel so empty listening to them just like that. But then again I'm not having a dozen speakers pointed at me sending pure fucking BWOOM in my face.
Also I'd say Gorguts's last album's tone is really interesting. Aside from Dysrythmia or Nero Di Marte, I haven't heard anything along the lines of it. Special mention for the huge stringed interlude.

>>
>>62447579
use a heat fun to remove the paint. WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. Otherwise just sand it until it's rough and paint over it. Yeah more or less your guitar will sound vintage if it's got vintage pickups, but depends on the pickups. Some pickups don't have much character.
>>
>>62447509
A Strat and Blackstar Club or Egnater Rebel 20.
>>
>>62447603
>you can switch out speakers on a combo too.
If the speaker dies you can usually use the amp and connect it to a different cab, yes. And you could also not use the combo amp and just use the speaker that it comes with and connect that to a different head, but in both cases you're carrying around dead weight. I'd also say that, generally speaking, you get the best quality by going for a separate amp and a nice cab vs a combo.
>>
>>62447662
>so, like why would anyone use fullstacks in this day and era?
What do you mean by that? Stage-sound is a thing, and PAs don't replicate that.

>stage feel is nice though but a half stack has no issue with that.
Half stacks and full stacks create a very different feel. It's not uncommon for some people to disconnect the top cabinet because it makes them feel sick (swirling feeling).

>>62447806
A big part of it is image and stage presence, but it's hard to beat the feeling of a wall of amps.
>>
>>62447806
for me, its a great monitor having the full stack. also, there is nothing like cranking a full stack and having your balls shake from it
>>
>>62447806
I have to agree with this. Especially if you're a guitarist. You really don't need more than a 2x12, even if "my drummer plays really hard." I think the reason people get stacks is so that they can get the tone they want with the tube amp they have that relies on volume to control distortion. You should get an amp that sounds good at any volume and don't compete with your goddamn bassist for volume. It's just obnoxious.
>>
Have any of you guys had any experience with Chibsons?
>>
>>62447873
Believe it or not, there are venues that don't have a proper PA setup but are large enough where a half-stack doesn't quite cut it.

>>
>>62448243
A Model T peaks at around 180 watts using a quad of 6550s. A half stack 5150 can push 120db+, a Model T can be much louder once boosted like Sunn do.

>>62448258
That's because you're a musician, the guitarist standing at the back with their arms folded. Most people at the show aren't guitarists, live performance and stage presence is a whole package of performance and image.

Sorry that was the Sunn experience you got where you live. When they played here the sound was almost entirely the stage amplifiers since the venues PA was average.

>as for your other point, yes, you can fool idiots. have fun with your magic show
Calling the majority of your fanbase idiots isn't a great way to be successful. You're really failing to understand the basics of performing a show with that attitude.

The 6/8 bit might be what I'm talking about. If anything, just the fact that it seems to slow down is a little jarring, IMHO. It starts off energetic and then seems to lose that feeling and it kind of leaves me wanting. Just my 0.02, anyway.

This implies the only measure of a car to you is how fast it goes, seems like you're missing a large part of car enthusiast culture as well.

...of hearing that would occur. Which I'm not a huge fan of. I don't want to sound like an ass here, you do you, if you enjoy it then that's great, but I don't need to see a band just because they're loud. And I didn't hear anything in there that would interest me otherwise.

they did skip aus a few years back and yes, in terms of volume i am implying how fast it is compared to volume. that was the whole point. are you retarded or just pretending? Guitars come setup out of the box now.
>>
>>62448964
not him but I really feel like people who pay others to set up their guitar or keep it the way it came are missing out. I want to adjust the guitar to the way I like to play, not the other way around. Doing your own setup gives you a different understanding of how you can play your guitar and what its limits are. Plus knowing how to set up your guitar lets you easily replace parts without paying someone.

Tension strings, do setup, untension strings for shipping, guitar arrives, tension strings again, great success comrade!

I know it's fretless but having better intonation than that bridge can offer is nice to have. Helps you visualize the fingerboard since you don't play bass guitar by positions.

Straight face full stack is blasting at your whole body, a half stack isn't. It creates a much more enveloped-by-the-sound feel than a half stack.

First if all, all three of the people in those videos are professional luthiers. Secondly, you shouldn't take their word for it. They're making arguments not based on their credibility but rather their knowledge and reasoning. I don't think you should dismiss those videos without watching them. I'm sure that watching the videos will make your own arguments more appreciable at least. A lot of aspects of the tonewood debate have been covered, and these videos make a good jumping off point. I didn't bother with much in the way of the physics involved in these videos, rather two of the videos rely on your own hearing, and the other is actually explaining one of the ways that wood DOES affect tone. But you dismissed him along with the others. Don't jump to conclusions! I know the videos are long but they're interesting.
