This is a misconception that sadly leads a lot of people that haven't heard the album to not give it a try because they see this spammed a lot. However, the social and political dimensions of the album are about black people in the US and only about them, Kendrick practically never mentions white people throughout. And I'd like to mention that the politics and social commentary is only part of this album, there is a lot more to it and people often seem to forget that and only discuss its political value.

There could be gorgeous works in plenty of ancient African languages, but we'll never get to read them because they've likely been destroyed, or else no one outside that culture will ever bother to attempt to get such a book published. It also doesn't help that their culture is incredibly separate from globalized culture to the point that the greatness of such a work would only be evident to someone of that culture, not ours. Talking about experiences with weed and this album, I gave it a listen whilst blazed and for the first time appreciated the level of complexity that went into almost all the instrumentals.
Before that it was just hooks and catchy segments that brought me back to the album. Now, even though I wouldnt call the album something I listen to often, I just pop on any song whilst sober and really enjoy it, knowing now that theyre all really fucking good songs.
