if you like ambient music, there's plenty of fantastic ambient-style vaporwave out there to find, as well as great work in the eccojams style. people here think vaporwave is on its way out because the first wave of "vaporwave as a meme"(these are the slowing down shitty muzak people) producers are just about done, but at this point there's lots of great vaporwave made all the time.

I like to think of the concepts of vaporwave as where we would be technologically had we not built high processing power computers with tons of memory. If we weren't in the digital format, we'd be using warbly analog still and experimentation would drive us to get the most interesting and developed (or undeveloped) sounds out of tape.

I can't speak for anyone else, but to me, vaporwave is the music of heaven. Its aesthetic, art style and soundscape is genuinely beautiful to me.
And not in a nostalgic way - in a far more personal way. It's like someone recorded my dreamscapes and converted them to mp3.
I get that it started as a musical joke.
I get that it's supposed to parody corporate consumerism.
I know a lot of people have called it hollow and empty, soulless.
But not to me. It's the soundtrack to my wonderland, and the only way to discover if our dreamscapes connect is to listen to it, too.
I'd personally recommend Disconscious, Shader, Infinity Frequencies and Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza.

Wow, anon. You just gave me a new perspective. Everyone has been arguing against vaporwave or arguing in defense of vaporwave. There's been insults thrown at vaporwave and at people who associate with it. But your explanation strikes at something very important: why people listen to and like vaporwave in the first place. Yes I have read explanations online for why people like it, people have said listening to it make it feel like their in a mall and nostalgia as others have mentioned. But that didn't really feel like enough. But it is YOUR reasons for why you listen to and love vaporwave that have caused me to change my view on vaporwave. For a long time, I just didn't get the appeal of vaporwave. Whenever I tried to listen to it, I just couldn't get into it. At worst it sounded like a disjointed mess and at best it sounded like elevator music. However now I get it. You listen to vaporwave because it strikes with you personally in a beautiful way. Before I wasn't sure how I felt about vaporwave. Now, I am glad vaporwave is around and I hope it stays around. You should also consider yourself lucky that you were born in time to experience the birth and growth of this new genre. I've actually been listening to Disconscious as I've been writing this, it's actually pretty good. I'll also try to check out your other recommendations some time.

I write sampleless Vaporwave. I like the Vaporwave sound but don't like the lack of artistic merit in merely slowing down samples. I personally thought that would be the future of Dream and Vaporwave, but instead it ended up being Hardvapour. A decision that still kind of baffles me.
