>it's actually /s4s/
Kim's responsible for many of their songs and her voice doesn't start sounding particularly thrashed until the later 90's albums. There's a difference between even Bull In The Heather Kim and The Ineffable Me Kim.

*many of their best songs
>listening to sonic youth

Did she write The Sprawl?
>>62413660
>Someone says they like music
>They really don't
>>62413955
Do the members even write lyrics for one another? I kinda figured if she sang it, she probably wrote it.
>ywn see Sonic Youth live in their prime, or ever for that matter
>>62414558
I'm guessing it's not a fun time?

>he doesn't dig nerdangst
c'mon, he's basically us, like the sound of shinji's conscience
>>62413660
DOES FUCK YOU SOUND SIMPLE ENOUGH
>>62414626
this her voice is bomb. fuckin hot man
Her version of "Aneurysm" was brilliant, but very niche.
Haters gonna hate.
name a single time when kims singing was actually beneficial to the song
>>62415784
The Sprawl, no one else could've sung that
>>62415784
Tunic.
Shadow of a Doubt.
>>62413660
hey lads, i've only listened to daydream nation from sonic youth's discog. why does everyone always complain about kim singing? i didn't think she was anything special either but not really that bad, and thurston didn't strike me as a particularly good singer compared to her.
>>62415919
its the tomboy singing style that pisses me off more than anything
>>62415883
>tunic
kill me

>>62416056
Yes, though it's not one of my favorites of theirs.
Tunic, though, might be my favorite song of theirs.

Everytime I think SY is overrated, I think of the first time I heard this song and want to listen to them more

>Bilinda Butcher starts "singing"
>>62417194
I can't believe that's her real name.
So, so apt.
>>62417194
I prefer her on Loveless but prefer Kevin on every other album
>>62415784
every track she's on Daydream Nation and earlier
>>62415919
She sings like she doesn't give a fuck, or feels too cool for her own music, which I guess puts off some people but I find it intoxicating.
Star Power is a good example
Her singing is alright, her lyrics though...
I just want to say that A 1000 leaves is actually pretty good.
>listening to music
>listening to Pixies
>Kim Deal starts singing
>>62413955
>>62414218
dont know about lyrics, but the music is collaborative
Mariah Carey + The Arthur Doyle Handcream is a top 5 Sonic Youth song, and it's Kim at her harshest ever
Too underrated

>>62420120
I think I remember reading somewhere that whoever wrote the lyrics got to sing them. It makes sense for the most part, the songs where Kim sings seem to be more stream-of-consciousness and the songs where Lee sings seem to have more vivid and surreal imagery. Thurston's lyrics are usually the least interesting.
>>62415919
I think it's just because it's so rough. Personally I love that she can go from sounding fairly sensual like in the intro to Teen Age Riot or the mini-chorus in The Sprawl to almost hardcore punk in 'Cross the Breeze or Pacific Coast Highway, but I can see how people might not be able to get into that.
>>62420270
hey fuck u
Also fun fact: That jag guy survived columbine
>>62417368
So what do you think of thurston doing it live all the time instead?
>>62421340
He wrote that one, same with some others like Doctor's Orders. I like the recording of Star Power but I'd like to hear Thurston's take.

Id be more impressed with the singing both in studio and live if the song was actually good
