I've mentioned it in other threads but for some reason I was shipped a second copy of Giles Corey I'm aiming to sell off. I don't know if I'm allowed to link classifieds here but I have it listed on discogs, it's the one being sold from canada. >>
>>62396432
The "only" was sarcastic, but I have about 30 box sets that were nearly as expensive. Half the cost is the research that goes into them. Comes with a 12x12" 60-page book featuring a meticulously complete discography/sessionography and a biography culled from over a dozen interviews.

[No, I have never known the intimate touch of another person]

>>62396466

Obi strips are supposed to be disposed of as soon as you buy the record, maybe that's why they're so valuable. You can just keep it somewhere else safe, if it's removable.

I waited three months for that particular seller to get a copy in stock, but they never did so I figured it had gone out of print. Since I'm Canadian, that copy would have cost me at least $200 anyway, so not a huge loss.

I don't understand this, really

>look what I spent money on

Do you feel as if you have accomplished or achieved something?

why should anyone care?

you have all these albums...for example, I bet you couldn't give half a shit about stamp collecting, that someone spent money on a specific stamp or has a large collection but because you spent money on an album, it means something?

you have a tangible way to flaunt your "taste" and achieve validation from others that take part in the same activity, that's it?

No, unfortunately not. Most of them were just bought on (slight) impulse as I lost myself at some stores I'd not visited before.
All in great condition and with decent Discogs ratings, THOUGH. I trust the good majority of Discogs a lot of times.

Where do you get news on reissues and things like that btw? Would've love to copped me some Laughing Stock and TNT, but I'm a bit late it seems.
>>
>>62398962

but why, I don't get it, is this some sort of evolutionary hangover, some sort of magpie like behavior to impress a mate?

>I have amassed a significant amount of this particular object, this gives me sanctification

I'm not knocking people buying albums, because they enjoy the music and they want to listen to it but the whole collection thing is weird, I bet most people feel that people who instgram the meals they eat are idiots, how is this different?
>>
>>62399107
>I have amassed a significant amount of this particular object, this gives me sanctification
Correct.
It's a very materialistic thing and it's purely for aesthetic and entertainment purposes. If you dislike either it simply will not be for you.
>>
>>62398891
>all this projecting
>>
>>62399107
You're right to some degree. The very physical properties of records makes it somewhat more rewarding and gratifying as you find something "rare" to put in your collection of plastic in paper sleeves.
I'd say (as a "collector" (although I don't collect obsessively, nor do I experience thrill while spending money on records)) that it is some kind of materialistic fetischism, much like stamp-, clothing- or instrument collecting.

I guess it makes sense to me as I get a lot of pleasure from it. Because I like browsing crates of used records and occasionally finding something I really like. Because I like turning the record halfway through while glancing the lyric sheets.

I don't do it for anyone else but myself, though - and that's were you're wrong (and possibly projecting); I have no desire for people to appreciate me for my "cool", "avant-garde" taste in music (i.e. intellectual depth).

Wait, is that one of the original pressings of F#A#Inf? With the coin pressed into it?

I can never remember the differentiation of the covers between formats other than the darker road sign being for the CD version.

Every vinyl repress of F# has the flattened penny. The first original edition was a limited edition hand numbered to 500, and the glued picture in the front is an actual darkroom photo, instead of offset printing. Other than that, everything else is more or less the same, other than coming with an actual gig poster and the blueprint not being a cheap print.

The represses have the "Original 1997 LP" sticker on the outer sleeve.

Why don't you fuck off and kill yourself. Not everything people do is for personal attention. We like looking at records and hearing how people got them, which isn't possible if people don't contribute. You think everything is about complimenting the person who bought the record, because no one loves you or gives a shit about your interests.

CDs will be cool again in 7-12 years when the digital natives fetishize our portable lossless shinydiscs

Just look at how the recent vinyl revival happened over the past 8 or so years. It was all about "muh warmth", nostalgia, and a physical object fetish. CDs were more expensive and the majority of bands weren't even pressing stuff to vinyl as a result. Major labels caught on after realizing record stores were becoming profitable again and started dumping money into it around 2011-2012. Today everyone wants their album on vinyl, you can buy them at Urban Outfitters/Best Buy/Barnes & Nobles/Booksamillion, Record Store Day is 2x a year + is sponsored by the major labels/biggest indie distributors, pressing plants have more orders than they can fulfill, and CD prices are as low as ever.

CDs are now neglected and it is hilarious considering much of recent releases and remasters are done from CD master copies. A CD revival is imminent. You can get new copies of classic albums on Amazon for starting at $4 shipped. Most record stores have bargain bins overflowing with promo copies of recent releases that they get sent for free with vinyl shipments. It's a great time to be a CD collector. Vinyl on the other hand is getting more and more expensive. Basic economics dictate that consumers will switch to the alternate, in this case CDs, as soon as the price point becomes to high. It is only a matter of time before the shift happens.

Why is it relevant that a record is pressed in Japan? Is it a different remastered version or does it bear no significance?
>>
>>62412779

Japanese people are good not only at pressing records but at packing them up.
>>
>>62412779
Different countries have different qualities of pressing

>>62412812

Bad pressings will have awful quality (imagine like bootleg vinyl), and England and Japan are known for having the most faithful/good vinyl pressings

>>
>>62390006
Is it worth getting this because its become pretty expensive and I've heard that the audio quality of the record is actually much poorer than you'd expect? I kind of want it but not if it ends up sounding really distorted like some people have said.
>>
>>62415331
vinyl is a lo-fi medium. it sounds better in most peoples opinion (including mine), but vinyl will always sound different than cd and mp3 and thats because vinyl is less accurate. it sounds saturated, warm, and distorted.

it's also expensive, records aside. the price for a good turntable (fuck ion, crosley, and the lp60) along with a good preamp and speakers will run you at least 400 bucks.

however, i personally always found vinyl to be much more rewarding than cd, and a million times better than illegal mp3s

What makes you think people are complimenting each other? I don't see anyone doing that. I see many people complimenting each other's records, maybe you got it confused?

What a victim complex you have. I can't even imagine what a faggy little life you have, getting mad triggered by record collecting of all things.
>>
>>62415574
No I meant the STGSTV record specifically. Sorry for the confusion. On the amazon some of the reviews said that the audio sounded poor so I wanted to know if that was actually the case before I looked into buying it because its a pretty expensive album.

>>62415331

There are two versions of that release, the 2009 DMM limited vinyl and the 2013 standard regular mastered one. The DMM one is reported to sound better.

I mean, it's already a fucking noisy lo-fi pop album, why bother

Definitely not out of production mane. And I wasn't even aware you can change the arm lol. How expensive is that?
