These are absurdly "difficult" artists to suggest as primary examples of great pop/rock music in any decade, and though I suffer for not being able read Italian or Latin fluently, a lot of his writing is the sort of florid, adjective-laden empiricism that really should have stopped once we had the rich-media Internet. Which is to say, once it became the case that anyone - anyone with Internet access, which is hardly Everyone but relative to the number of people who could afford to buy pop music, is a higher percentage than you might realize - can listen to almost anything, your job is to make a convincing case for why a particular record or artist is more worthy than another. I don't think he's accomplished that in many cases.
