>>
>>62032879
There's nothing wrong with either repetition or drone, I enjoy plenty of music containing such elements.
The problem with this record is that fucking repetition is all that it is. Ambient music should be both reptitive and also calming but it needs to have something to make it more than just a synthesizer wankfest. And that's exactly what's wrong with this hunk of shit.
>>

Not trying to shit on your point, but theres more it it than you think.

"The album features long minimal, droning compositions created from heavily treated guitar, horn, flute, piano, and other classical instruments"
>>
>>62032947
That doesn't stop it from being incredibly dull and boring.
The orchestra is quite obvious throughout the album, the guitar less so but through the fucking endless layers of reverb you can hear it.
The instrumentation used does not stop the album from literally being a soft music dronefest. It literally doesn't even try to make itself interesting, it's so damn boring that someone who just drank cups of coffee after listening to 3 grindcore albums would fall asleep while listening to this within the first fucking disk.
>>
>>62032926
you added more words but you didn't actually explain any of your reasoning

>it needs to have something to make it more than just a synthesizer wankfest. And that's exactly what's wrong with this hunk of shit.

what, exactly? you didn't specify anything

tired sounds isn't even that repetitive compared to a lot of ambient, it has a lot of subtle decoration, kinda harkens back to eno
>>
>>62032970
That's up to the musician to be creative about it. It can be anything really. I'm not an ambient musician so I wouldn't know.
My point is that this record doesn't even try to entertain the listener. It just does its boring crap for 2 hours straight and expects you to go along with it, no explanations included.
>>
>>62032991
let me guess, you also dislike music for airports?

the entire point of ambient is that it's ambient, it doesn't need to go anywhere
>>
>>62032829
literally one of the most realistic atmospheres created by an album
>>
>>62033005

Music for Airports is grossly overrated. I much prefer Another Green World. Music for Airports is tolerable but it's not something I'd go crazy over.
So just because of the genre name it has the right to literally be a wankfest? Why can't it be ambient AND interesting at the same time? Ambient implies its background music, but that doesn't stop it from being entertaining background music. What a lazy excuse to be a shitty uninspired musician.

>>
>>62033026
I'm beginning to think you don't even like ambient

another green world is just slowed down pop, barely ambient at all

>Why can't it be ambient AND interesting

I think subtle changes in the music and instrumentation can be very interesting, personally. I like the less is more approach to music.
>>
>>62033080

I'm not that big a fan of ambient, I just like some albums in the genre. But the record OP posted was just fucking awful.
There are no fucking subtle changes on that album aside from the occasional bass drone coming in. It's literally, like I said, holding the same note for 5-8 minutes. How exactly do you listen to something like that and go "wow, this is entertaining and doesn't fucking make me want to fall asleep"?
>>
>>62033105
>There are no fucking subtle changes on that album

that's not true at all, try paying attention next time you listen to it
>>
>>62033105
Leave this general. Now.
>>
>>62032767
Best ambient albums for winter? Nights especially.
>>
>>62033122
I was, I was paying attention to the whole thing, waiting for it to suddenly come out and impress me with something I hadn't noticed before. But no, I was left there hanging for two fucking hours. Every now and then there'll be an instrument that comes out to the top of the mix and actually plays some passable chord changes, and once in a while you get some bass drones. But that's it. No interesting textures, no well done sound effects, no entertaining instrumentations, just endless boredom. And really it's quite ironic how it's supposed to be calming music when it just makes you anxious as to when it will start getting interesting.
>>62033133

Here's some of my stuff. Frost is still up for sale on cassette. True to its name, it's some cold wintery music. I performed it live this month and it was a lot of fun. Here's a clip from the show. I forgot my tape loops for the song at home so I had to play it off my phone and add layers with guitar over. It went well except for when I got a notification and it made a beep. I then turned it to airplane mode haha.

who else /fuzzambient/ here?
really loud, thick, grainy, fuzzy, huge and monolithic ambient is my jam

for example this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBmITEYut6M

pic related, its how I feel when I listen to my favorite ambient

can give recs, will accept recs too

>>62033154
Mirages by Hecker feel like night to me
for wintery ambient, go to arctic ambient, i.e. any ambient that features snow on the cover and makes you feel hypothermia (Biosphere, Thomas Koner, Sleep Research Facility, Lull)
if you feel your fingers freezing you can try Benoit Pioulard - Sonnet to combat that, its (a)aoty2015 imo and is very summery, lush and garden-y ambient
>>
>>62033105
If you want enternainment in that sense, listen to another genre. Also, there are changes in the album.
>>
>>62033588
I have listened to plenty of genres, I have heard a lot of minimalistic music, but why is "you don't get it man it's SUPPOSED to be boring listen to another genre" an excuse for plain laziness?

For some reason despite this being your only defense of it I have given more examples of changes in it than you have. Ironic isn't it?

>>62033969
nah, I wasn't the guy with the headphones, actually I don't think you need some specific headphones for ambient as long as they aren't V-shape sounding, any neutral phones will do, and lets face it, you shouldnt ever buy any non-neutral ones anyway. I'm just saying that I don't see what you're looking to achieve in this thread other than being all around jackass.
>>
>>62034195
I'm not being a jackass, unless stating your own opinion is being a jackass. If anything you've been extremely vague about why this album is good. You've been saying "woah it has variation man" without giving examples of said variation. "i bet you don't even like music for airports fuckign plen", "this genre isn't for u man get out plox" and various other off topic things which still do not prove why this album is good.
If you can't argue your points without resorting to empty insults and vague references then please leave 4chan.

Virgins is his newest one and definitely the most forward thinking, experimental and unique one, so don't expect more stuff like that from him just yet (maybe later this year when the new album comes out). His other records are more conventional in comparison, but that doesn't mean they're worse. Personally my favorite is Ravedeath which he made right before Virgins, but its a different beast altogether. Click through some of his stuff on YT or try the chart, see if anything interests you. >>62034533

That's the laziest excuse I've seen for that album so far in this thread.
Here's an example. Aphex Twin's SAW II manages to be 30 minutes longer than that hunk of shit, yet twice as interesting. Both are undeniably ambient records, why is AFX so much better at making ambient music that's eyecatching and suitable background music for sleeping, doing work, etc.?
