>>62026174
Boy, this doesn't really line up with my tastes at all, besides Radio, Cave, and Bowie. The only Jonathan Coulton song I've heard is Furry Old Lobster, but it's pretty good.

I listened to an album recently that I enjoy, that I remember thinking had definite musical-like qualities (and I usually don't like that kinda thing at all). I'll let you know if I think of it.

>>62025838
+Kate Bush, Antony & the Johnsons. Those are their most popular albums, respectively, so if you haven't heard anything else from them I rec The Dreaming and 50 Words for Snow for Kate, and The Crying Light and Cut the World for Antony (Cut the World is a live album). I like Scissor Sisters, but haven't heard that album, I'm lukewarm on Pulp, and I don't like Aztec Camera. You seem very British.

I'll bump the thread with the rest of my ratings and recs. Appreciate any feedback.

-Kendrick, FlyLo, Grizzly Bear (except one or 2 songs), Tyler (except 1 or 2), Daft Punk, Danny Brown.

I like Bat for Lashes, RTJ, and None Shall Pass all right, but not enough to listen to any of them recently. Haven't listened to Let's Dance. Have you heard of Billy Woods? He's a pretty good rapper. You might like him.

Just about everything here is discussed to death, and I get burned out hearing discussion on it, let alone contributing to the discussion. Listen to something from the 80's that mu hasn't run into the ground, like Hallowed Ground by Violent Femmes, or Jeopardy by The Sound, or Don't Try This At Home by Michael Brecker.
>>
>>62025340
>All that Bowie, with TMLT being the most-listened to album.
You probably are just going through all the Bowie that gets discussed here, because you wanted to see what the fuss was about. That or you fell asleep with the Bowie folder of your music player on, and it just went through and fucked your shit up. OR you just love Bowie a shitton, and listened to TMLT once through, but it's at the top because it has like 21 tracks.

Either way, Bowie and Titus Andronicus rule, The Nat'l is bad and overrated, and Interpol is just ok.

Husker Du rule. People seem to like Zen Arcade a bunch here, but I don't see much else discussed.

You can read all about Destroy All Monsters here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destroy_All_Monsters_%28band%29

I don't know much besides what the article says because I just started listening to them, but they're a pretty out-there band from the 70's. Some dark ambient sounding stuff, some noisy punk stuff, some weird atonal electronic experiments. All lo-fi. Worth checking out.

Listening to Napalm Dream now. Pretty cool pop punk, and I've never heard of them before, so thanks for the rec.
>>
>>62027694
Destroy All Monsters looks cool as shit, will check out.
Tenement has another album they released last year that was pretty strange. A double album with their standard pop punk, dark folk, orchestral ambience, sound collage, and light jazz all bundled together. You might wanna check that out too, it's pretty sweet.

-Indian Summer (Heard it a long time ago, don't remember what it sounded like, but I wasn't a huge fan).

I do dig Sun City Girls and Loop (and this is probably the first time I've ever seen Loop even mentioned here, so props), but I've only heard Torch of the Mystics and Funeral Mariachi for the first, and Fade Out for the second. I'll look into those albums on your chart though.

If you like Sun City Girls, Alan Bishop has released some spoken-word solo stuff under the name Uncle Jim. I love it, but it's not up everyone's alley.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p4usL3tVYU

And for more pop-punk, you might like Trophy Lungs from Boston. My buddy drums for them and they're cool guys and decent musicians.

https://trophylungs.bandcamp.com/album/no-judgement
>>
>>62028195
Indian Summer is nice post hardcore, but if you're not a huge fan of the genre I can understand not liking it.

I can't tell whether I love or hate Uncle Jim yet, I'll have to listen to more

Your friends are cool, tell them they're doing it right

Also check out Macha's self titled album. I'm not sure why you'll like it but you will. It's pretty high energy indie rock infused with traditional gamelan instruments and very intoxicating organs. Weird mix but it works so well

I'll check out Macha. The name rings a bell, and gemelan can be cool.

I don't think I liked post-hardcore much when I listened to Indian Summer, but my tastes have changed since then, no doubt. I really love the bands that tend towards the earlier, pre-2000's sound (stuff like Shellac, Drive Like Jehu, Nation of Ulysses, Hot Snakes), but I still can't get into the later stuff that incorporates more mathcore and screamo stuff (like Fall of Troy, Alexisonfire, etc). So I'll have to revisit it.

Thanks again for all the recs and the good conversation, and I'll pass on the compliments to my friends. Heading to bed now, so have a good night.
