So.. W.A.S.T.E. has just been down for several hours, is this gonna drop tomorrow or what?

Any predictions?
>>
I'm just hoping it won't be TKOL 2
>>
>>62014026
That art looks promising.
I want another OKC
>>
From what I've been seeing it should be released in the next few months, nobody knows for sure though.
>>
>>62014094
clearly you haven't learned anything about radiohead from the past 15 years if you're really hoping for another OKC
>>
I'm just hoping for a studio version of identikit
>>
didnt thom recently get divorced?

Or will the songs be about trees again
>>
>>62014147
This. I love OKC but all I really want is to know what new direction they'll head in next
>>
>>62014094
HTTT was supposed to be the next OKC. We all know how that turned out.
>>
less burial more autechre pls
>>
>>62014147
Well obviously it's not. It's a distant hope.
Radiohead is my favorite band, so I am glad they switch it up.
I just want less electronics in this one
>>
The Spectre song was alright.. hope they can pull it off again after the somewhat disappointing TKOL
>>
>>62014286
to be frank i doubt it was "obvious" to you because evidently you aren't very bright.
>>
>>62014286
>I just want less electronics in this one
This, TKOL was not that good, but the live rendition of most TKOL song were great just cause they used less electronics.
>>
>>62014194
Yep, best song from the live stuff, and actually sounds new and interesting. If it's the direction they move in, I'm all for it.

Even then, I'm also interested in how all the acoustic stuff (Desert Island Disk etc.) will sound on the album, because they are certainly going to change.
>>
>>62014256
hell to the thief is still important in context, like radiohead and nine inch nails where literally the only ones who werent pussies and put out protest albums after bush started the wars

I don't really see post-rock (not 3-rd wave) and Radiohead together, but shoegaze could actually work, they kinda did it already on Go Slowly and it was pretty cool.

Every album since Amnesiac has been a slight variation of Amnesiac's sound. Not hard to guess what LP9 will sound like.

implying thom is a plebe, shoegaze is so overplayed with you hipster faggots making the same sounding album over and over again shit that sounds like a fucking radiator.

Im expecting some bleep bloops and jazz
>>
>>62016784

Why? It's legitimately my favorite. It encompasses the near whole of their sound, has a distinct atmosphere allnits own that's not unlike a chilly winter day, and it's probably their bleakest album to date. Kid A maybe ties with it for me depending on my mood.
>>
>>62016887

Sorry, I meant to say chilly autumn day there. Kid A is definitely more wintry than HTTT.
>>
theyre gonna drop the greatest psych pop album of all time just watch
>>
>>62014196
Haha songs about trees sounds autistic
>>
>>62016784
Not him but HTT is their best album IMO. The songs themselves are on par with any of their best efforts (Amnesiac and Kid A for me) but there's less whiny York falsetto, which makes it way better than those two.
>>
>>62016974

TKoL is Amnesiac with trees.

>>62016986
hail to the thief has arguably the best set of songs, they're just not cohesive

there, there and myxomatosis stand in radiohead's top 10 best songs and pretty high up the list at that.
the only album which rivals hail to the thief as far as individual song quality is In Rainbows with Reckoner and Nude
>>
>>62017062
bruce springsteen > burial
>>
>>62017112

> not cohesive

Genre-wise perhaps but thematically the album is 56 minutes of dystopian oppression and natural disasters. The faint glimmer of hope that is Sail to the Moon notwithstanding, HTTT is pretty consistently dismal as fuck.
>>
>>62017164
Merzbow > Springsteen
>>
Getting into Radiohead recently, and loving it.

Although I just listened to Pablo Honey and that was pretty bad
So far
PH=5
The Bends=8
OKC=10
Kid A=9
Gonna listen to Amnesiac soon, what do I expect?
>>
>>62014256
Very well? HTTT is fantastic. Better than In Rainbows at least.

>>62014026
Or they're just prepping the site to advertise the release. Time for hype.
>>
>>62017256
yeah i was referring to the genre-based styles of songs
the themes are consistent pretty much
>>
>>62017309
Its an entire album of the more experimental stuff on Kid A.
>>
>>62017285
ace of base > merzbow
>>
>>62017309
Jazzier, more ethereal Kid A.

You and Whose Army sounds better when you know it was their attempt at sounding like The Ink Spots.

If you liked Kid A you'll like Amnesiac most likely.

Also good taste so far.
>>
>>62017309

Their most "challenging" album, and the jump-off point for the material that follows. Amnesiac is where Radiohead found their unique sound.
>>

>>
>>62017430
>>62017375
I listened to Kid A for the first time in maybe 2007 or so. Idioteque is still my favorite Radiohead song. It's perfect.

>>62017370
Hail to the Thief and King of Limbs are more challenging than Amnesiac. Not worse (in fact they're definitely better), but definitely more challenging.
>>
>>62017464

Likewise, HTDC got better for me the more I listened to it.
>>
>>62017370
>Amnesiac
>Challenging
Get a load of this guy.
>>
>>62017504

TKoL perhaps but I'd say HTTT is more accessible. There's nothing as dense as Pulk/Pull or Like Spinning Plates, and its singles are the most Britpop-y the band has been since OKC.
>>
I don't get the Radiohead hype. They just sound like a pleb version of sigur ros

>>
>>62017587

It's almost like challenging is in quotation marks for a reason.
>>
>>62017638
HTTT has Gloaming, We Suck Young Blood, and I Will. Gloaming is very dense, WSYB is long, and I Will is incredibly bare. Pulk/Pull and Like Spinning Plates are not hard songs to get into at all- they're experimental, but they have very present and strong hooks. In my opinion anyway.

HTTT is also 15 minutes longer than Amnesiac. It's a rougher listen I think.
>>
>>62014075
TKOL was GOAT tho.
>>
>>62017749

Gloaming maybe but WSYB is just unconventional for Radiohead - they don't usually do slow, modestly lengthy dirges - but aside from the brief jazzy freakout in the middle it's a pretty normal tune of its ilk, and Like Spinning Plates is I Will in reverse.
>>
>>62017918
No, Like Spinning Plates is the original version of I Will played in reverse. The one on HTTT is completely different from what they originally intended.

>>62017825
It was great, not GOAT. Feral was an awful bridge between the two sides, but most everything else was GOAT.
>>
>>62017959

Even so, it got reworked into a 2 minute long, guitar driven interlude.
>>
I hope Identikit is an indicator of what the album will sound like.

Fuck Identikit is so fucking good
>>
>>62018013
An incredibly slow, bare, hookless interlude in a minor key.
I'm not saying it isn't good, but those two minutes do drag an already lengthy record.

>>
well if it is like Identikit then it will be thom singing over hiphop type beats
>>
>>62018178

Spoiler alert - some of these tracks have been blending IR's tighter compositions with the darker ambience of their early 2000's material. Personally, that excites me. People keep talking about Identikit but I want more shit like Cut a Hole or Ful Stop.

>>
>>62014256

It sort of actually got me into good music
>>
Identikit is fucking boring as hell compared to Ful Stop, what is wrong with people? Identikit has one cool section with the synths and guitar in the middle, then proceeds to go nowhere. Ful Stop meanwhile has an incredible groove, chord changes, and a great ending with noodling guitars.
>>

Naw dog, that song was a highlight.
>>
>>62019490

>>
>>62019490
I have to agree. As much as I want to like Identikit, the melodies in that sound like something from a really shitty R&B song. Ful Stop sounds much more like the Radiohead we know and love, of which I'll always take more.

I'm a HTTTfag and I've gotta disagree. There There's a hell of a song. It, 2+2=5, Myxomatosis, and Where I End And You Begin are probably my favorites on it.

I will also admit I've got some bias against Identikit because it's the one I see mentioned/praised most often even among the band. And if that one gets on the album without Ful Stop, I will be all kinds of mad.

Not that guy, but Jonny was quoted in a non-english interview with shitty english translations (his original english responses were not revealed) as saying the song was apparently being worked on.
But it was unclear because of translation, saying something like "Oh yea, you know there's always a really old song on each album, like Nude from In Rainbows" when the interviewer asked him about a rumor pertaining to Radiohead's manager saying Lift was being worked on. Jonny didn't directly say yes or no unfortunately. This messy explanation sucks, I know.

Ok, that much I remember. So the correct term would be "rumored."

WOW SO CONTRARIAN VERY HIP
>>
>>62027370
OK Computer isn't shit because it's popular because Kid A is great, it's shit because it's shit.

>>62027151
>>62027192
>>62027228
>>62027282
It means nothing. Back to r/radiohead
>>
>>62027426
And how exactly is it shit?
>>
>>62027426

OKC is pretty great, but to me it has moments where it seems to just kinda drag. Kid A is fucking beautiful though.
>>
is it a REAL new album? holy shit, i hope is longer than TKOL
>>
>>62027454
The songwriting, from the word go, is a lot weaker than The Bends (the only good album they made in the 90s). That omnipresent phaser effect drives me up the fucking wall and that plastic acoustic sound does as well. And every single song follows the same "Slow start, additional instrumentation comes in, really cluttered multi layered/fast/loud/any combination of these three final minute(s) or so, then end". The only variation to that structure is that some songs end whilst the mayhem is going on and others go back to being quiet for 30 seconds or so. But it's always slow and soft> extra instruments > LOUD AND CLUTTERED > end.

Of course, I don't expect this to make you think OKC is shit, that's not how the world works. That's just why I think it's shit.
>>
>>62027716
Fair enough. I still think it's their best
>>
>>62027716
But Kid A does the same thing with the buildups all the time, I mean
>EIIRP
>National Anthem
>HTDC
>In Limbo
>Morning Bell
>>
>>62027428
actually it was posted here before there
>>
>>62027849
Eh, the climax is more in the middle for EIIRP, it goes a full minute winding down before the end and Morning Bell never goes really loud/fast/cluttered. It gets loudER but not loud.

But yeah, it's fairly common in there too. It's a Radiohead formula they use a lot. But 1) It's not EVER song 2) I think the songwriting is stronger in all their other records 3) It doesn't have that fucking phaser effect or that shitty acoustic guitar sound
>>
>>62027716
Karma Police and No Surprises are probably the only exceptions, but yeah, I didn't even notice it before somehow.

>>62027849
With the exception of TNA and Morning Bell, they aren't as cluttered as OKC songs. Besides, when everybody talks of Kid A they mainly talk about Idioteque or Motion Picture (also HTDC and Kid A to a lesser extent), which are definately not as noisy.
>>
>>62014094
That art looks like shit, you fucking faggot
>>
>>62027999
I agree with you, anon. I really really hope it's not the cover art and is just some promo material. I'm already bored of this pic and the album isn't even out, even though the aesthetic seems interesting.

Also check 'em.

OHHHHH SHIIIIIITTTTT
>>
>>62014094
It's like the most generic P4K bait cover art in the world.
>>
>>62028280
>P4K bait cover art
What the fuck does that even mean? It looks good
>>
>>62028316
You know what oscar bait? This is P4K bait.
>>
>>62028316
>Whited-out figures of people and even a guy holding a kid on top of a rocky surface symbolize the removal of people's identity in the cold world of today's industrialization
>>
>>62028365
>You know what oscar bait
No. Please explain
>>
>>62020560
I always skip Backdrifts when I listen to HTTT
>>
>>62028385
"Oscar bait is a term used in the film community for movies that appear to have been produced for the sole purpose of earning nominations for Academy Awards or "Oscars", as they are commonly known."
>>
>>62028375
Thats a pretty gay interpretation
>>
>>62028415
So by making a good movie you're baiting? I guess technically trying to do exceptionally well at making a movie is "baiting for an Oscar"
>>
>>62028461
You can go on TVTropes and read all the tropes that are attributed to Oscar bait, it's a real thing.
>>
>>62028461
No, that's not what that means.
Also:
>He thinks the oscars actually nominate the best movies of the year
>>
>>62028505
Yah, I only like college art films with a black and white filter. Everyone knows that the list of Best Pictures is garbage
>>
>>62028551
>The "it's only mainstream mass-appeal crap or incomprehensible art house bullshit dichotomy"
Holy crap, stop showing your 16ness, mate.
>>
>>62028627
Almost none of the Oscars Best Pictures fall into either of those categories you fucking idiot
>>
>>62028551
Lol Birdman was garbage? . k
>>
>>62028677
>The million dollar oscar productions aren't mass-appeal because they don't make a billion dollars
JESUS JUST STOP
>>
>>62028398

Why? Backdrifts is great. Dem warbly synths, man.
>>
>>62028716
No theyre not mass appeal crap because they're not usually crap. Theyre mass appeal, but if you think that inherently makes them bad then you're proving my point of what a contrarian faggot you are
>>
>>62028398
AH AH AH
>>

I was being sarcastic

Bullshit, I'm listening to it now and it's fucking gorgeous...unless they've somehow got an idea to one-up it.

If Radiohead hates Spotify, why is King of Limbs on there?
>>
>>62029826
because XL own the album not Radiohead
>>
>>62029826
please dont make radiohead mad
>>
>>62029826
They only hate Spotify because "Evil capitalism, am I right?". When they realised it was actually profitable they just sort of put it out there.
>>
More changes happening:

Remember when going to radiohead.com you had an animated background? Well that's gone, there is only a blue screen now.
>>
Did you guys like Junun?
>>
Please just give us follow me around

That's all I want
>>
>>62030020
Thom pulled the stuff he owned from Spotify because he believed that they didn't pay the artists the amount they deserved, not because of "Evil capitalism"
>>
>>62030707
Your browser is fucked
>>
On a related note: I just bought Tomorrow's Modern Boxes (didn't have the chance to hear it when it came out) and it's really nice. It's weird that I've never heard much about it here or anywhere else.
>>
>>62030707
yeah no that's back again
>>
probs a new appreciation for tkol/staircase
>>
>>62028704
