The point of these threads, is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to, and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

We track our progress using calendars, which we fill with the albums we listen to on each day and a rating of some sort for all of them. There are templates in the following posts. We encourage you to write the albums' titles and the artists' names somewhere on your calendar. We don't have any tools for creating these calendars, we use simple image editing softwares. You can predetermine a schedule for a month or you can report back on whatever album you randomly picked every day. Many of us make our schedules interesting in various way, popular ones being genre restrictions, new releases, and recs from the /daily/ community.

We had a plug.dj room, which we used to shitpost for a little while. It's now forever empty, so if you want to spend a little time there, it is too late. You can find the temporary substitute here though:

no one should really be able to start the threads, but usually one of /daily/'s dedicated trips starts them anyways.

We encourage you to start it, just be sure to use the standard OP.

Site with templates, OP covers, archive, & random shit:

Most importantly, get taste.
Previous thread got taken down for /pol/posting so no previous thread link.

I cant for the life of me remember the title to the album I'm reviewing and cant be bothered to go to my PC's itunes to get the title/look through the archive

It was pretty good, kind of the same thing but as No Becoming but not as amazing... I think what that album (No Becoming) does right is create a solid atmosphere around the guitar driven atmosphere, which is what is lacking here, still good though

>>
>>62012524
>Cottonwoodhill
woah, but this album is great
how can you hate it?
>>
>>62012519
Maybe their later albums aren't completely terrible, but their s/t is carnival music. Its very goal is to be as "lolsorandumb xdd" as possibru. If you have taste, you will dislike it.

>>62012524
Cottonwoodhill is a good album, not sure what there is to dislike about that.
>>
>>62012754
I seriously don't know how you can listen to it in 2016 and think it doesn't sound awfully dated. I can tolerate the 2nd track but Brainticket is incredibly boring and and headache-inducing.
>>
>>62012519
i find the approach of i have cancer it's a sad story perverse, similar to the fart in our stars
>>
>>62012888
tbf, dated doesnt need to be a negative, it could well be a charm
i should prolly listen to it agen
>>
>>62012989
Sure but this is the bad kind of dated.
>>62012359
Why did you listen to so many La Dispute albums if you hated it?
>>
>think about joining daily it sounds like a cool idea
>see Eureka and Aesthetica as favorites around here
So people enjoy shallow gimmick version of versatility around here?

>>62012888
Nice trips, but Brainticket do a really good job of making krautrock that is mad funky.
>>
>>62013070
Only one trip actually likes Aesthetica and Eureka isn't even O'Rourke's best.
>>
>>62013031
i listened to them when i was somewhat into screamo and exploring the genre

>>
>>62012888
doesn't sound dated at all to me, everything is super fun and groovy
>>62012952
so you just hate it for the story?
I heard people claiming the cancer is just a metaphor
would that make the album better?
>>
Okay, so I have never done this before but wanna try this out for the sake of listening to new music. I know that I don't need /daily/ to discover punk and metal I know my way around those genres well enough to do it on my own. Here's the closest equivalent of my all time favorites. Which direction of music would you guys recommend I go to for /daily/?

>>62013137
Eh I guess that's on whoever likes it. Too gimmicky for me personally as I said.

>>62013203
I can attest to this. Touche Amore and La Dispute was all I listened to to in high school until I discovered Orchid which led me down the path of screamo.
>>
>>62013311
no i hate the music as well
and as far as i'm concerned it's a metaphor for an abusive relationship, but i don't really care one way or the other
i don't actively hate the album either

Thanks. Yeah that doesn't seem like a bad idea. Minimalism has played a huge influence on the electronic part of my chart and all the jazz fusion/krautrock that should be part of the chart that I also love a lot. Also pretty unfamiliar with the scene outside Part/Glass/Reich/Cage.

As ridiculous as it seems, yes. The album was meant to be taken in as whole. Though I've only really listened to in full once, the experience was unique and it's something everyone should at least do once to properly see where Michael Gira was going with it.

Small update:
Polar Sequences was a cool live recording of some arctic tecno on top of a cold-ass mountain above Tromso, icy icy sound. Last track is p much melting water and cracking ice, that was nice.

Xhol wasn't as great as I thought it would be, the bluesy psychedelic jams never really went anywhere interesting. I did like their vocalist though

I would still say check out his other works. They vary in all sorts of ways from Lesson No. 1.

Here I had put in a share thread a while back everything worth checking out from him. The Ascension is obviously his essential record, but check out everything from Symphony 3 and onward for more different.

Felt ambivalent about Brainiac, it sound real nice at times but also a bit annoying and stoopid, it's up for relisten some other time.

Idk what I was thinking with that Buckshot record, no joy to be found, only boring funky jazz, some loops and songs that sound like taken from The Average Soul Album and overall mediocreness, worst one so far, beating the lamey melodrama of black tape

Wow, this was fantastic. I can see why clutnuckle is such a fan of this album. I'd have to admit it's a little front-loaded, and the back end is a bit weaker, but overall it's a really solid album. The two longest tracks are the best tracks, and I really like it when that happens. As far as playing goes, it does sound fairly Fahey-esque, but Steffen really carves out his own little corner of american primitive style. I've already listened to this about three times, and I'll probably listen a dozen more shortly.

ONLY 14 TO GO GUYS

FZ:OZ was another unnecessarily long live album. Some good stunts on here, but nothing worth going back to.

Lumpy Money is a fantastic blend of We're Only In it For the Money and Lumpy Gravy. If you like either of those albums, this 3 and a half hour behemoth is a must. Contains several behind the scenes selections, as is a theme with the Project/Object series (I hope they make more!!!) as well as several mixes and versions of both albums. Really good stuff, just kind of repetitive and mind-numbing for one single listen.

Feeding the Monkies at Ma Maison seems like a missing link from Zappa's shittiest period: his electronic composition era. Good thing it's slightly more interesting than Francesco Zappa, or I'd be-a shittan brix.

If by Finer Moments he means "finer than the last few albums before this," then yes. But that's saying pretty much nothing. Some live originals, but nothing worth heading back for.

Joe's camouflage was like Joe's Domage with better recording equipment. Doesn't really make for a better album, though.

I feel like they accidentally just left the recording equipment on during a rehearsal and Gail was like "I need money so this is now an album."

I'll get to the YCDTOSA albums, but not for a couple days at least.

okay so i'm wondering
does your book feature a lot of moods? just about what are you aiming to convey with this piece?

or is it going to be one of those static genre books where all i'm going to see is E.E. Cummings shit
>>
>>62028144
>does your book feature a lot of moods?
At least many.

>just about what are you aiming to convey with this piece?
The beauty of being alive, among other things, including but not limited to political theories, the nature/structure/significance/challenges of religion (or more general faith), how we become ourselves through experience or how experiences shape us, the significance of death etc.

>or is it going to be one of those static genre books where all i'm going to see is E.E. Cummings shit
Uh no. Hell to the no.
>>
>>62028329
just on first prediction it reminds me of It's Such A Beautiful Life. I loved that movie and I hope I dig this as much too. You might have been the one who recced it earlier too.
>>
>>62028441
That is a fine comparison. I'm working with something much less surreal, but the moods and ideas behind that film touch on a few ideas similar to what I'm trying to get at.
>>
>>62029276
damn, i'm a sucker for surrealism too. Especially when the poetry itself is. How are you going to go about releasing it?
>>
>>62029325
>How are you going to go about releasing it?
I'm mostly focusing on getting it completed and professionally edited first, but ideally I find an agent to represent it and help find a publisher. Failing that, send it to publishers myself.

Self-publishing is possible but it isn't an option I'd prefer.
>>
>>62029373
the literary world is interesting to me. what's selling at the moment? if authors like John Green can become popular and have their works made into films then that's a sign that economy is alive and well, correct?
>>
>>62029420
>if authors like John Green can become popular and have their works made into films then that's a sign that economy is alive and well, correct?

John Green is an interesting case, as an auther before social media but now a weird freakish internet media/literature hybrid monstrosity of low-cost publicity freight trains and exceptionally strong and devoted fanbase.

ie. he is a special case, and his situation means that adapting his books to film (especially considering his books generally translate to lower-budget film affairs) is effectively a certain profit. Meaning his book adaptations are a sound business decision for film producers.

Generally books don't get film adaptations without a colossal following in text form. Business stuff, cost-risk assessments etc. etc.

But yes there is a bit of a resurgence in literature lately, with media tech. developing so well. It is kind of similar to the vinyl revival meme going around the music world.

But I don't follow literature mostly. I really only read/follow non-fiction and poetry :|
>>
>>62030274
>exceptionally strong and devoted fanbase.
this is where /daily/ comes into play

but in all seriousness, i have faith that if you're going to make something great it's only natural for people to come and devote themselves to you.

i'm going to get you a Rimbaud collection for Christmas m8.
>>
>>62030676
desu tho mostly I hate fiction because fiction writers are ab-so-lute shiiiite at actually writing.

I'm more in love with how language moves than by good stories. Heaven knows I'm happier not knowing the ending of a story than I am face-slamming my way through bland style and uninspired prose to reach a story's conclusion.

Which is to say, a good poet's language tickles my giblets far more than a good novel worth of snooze-fest utilitarian language used only for the purposes of conveying a story.

Rimbaud's pretty cool tho.

Now that I have a portable HDD with all my music I can finally have an updated library on linux and listen to music on my laptop which I use more than the desktop PC.

Got myself a new linux music player which is pretty cool, like it a lot despite not being nearly as visually appealing as Musicbee I like this style as well

As far as I'm concerned it used to be satire but the majority of the board went through some Poe's Law shit so now it's a combination of people who say nazi for teh lulz and people who say nazi shit because they really are that stupid.
