This is probably the most divisive album of the genre. You either love it or think it's overrated trash. So if you wanted to spark debate, OP. Good Job! I think it's the latter.

My favorites:
DLJ - Yank Crime
Shotmaker - The Crayon Club (possibly considered just hc)
Happy Go Licky - Will Play
Portraits of Past - 010111001010010100101 or whatever
Okara - Months Like Years

Currently listening to this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0Vp_ApaHMI

and patiently waiting yet another year for this amazing band to release a new album. They keep promising...

Portraits of Past is a good one. They were so ahead of the curve. Hard to believe they were a mid 90s band

Really after listening to Shape of Punk to come, RoC, Big Black, Shellac, Yank Crime etc. how much good stuff is there left in the genre(s). I listen to stuff like Blood Brothers and Fall of Troy and it just sounds like shittier versions of the classics.

Stuff like mewithoutYou and Envy are pretty great too but I haven't really found anything else I love as much as the above.

Funny story. Soon after I posted the video, someone DLed that album from me off slsk. I messaged him "Hello, /mu/
...
He wasn't from here.

But we had a nice, little conversation about the Ottawa scene from 10 years ago.

He recommended Weights and Measures, which sounds like noisy math-rock instrumentals.

Anyway, glad you liked the rec.

Okara is similar to Rockets Red Glare. But more mathy and disjointed. Another band from Canada (Ontario). You might like them too.
