what do you think of people who mainly listen to post-rock?
>>
>>61985729
Hipster prog
>>
>>61985729
>mainly 1st wave
meh, they usually listen to same 4 or 5 artists and worship Talk Talk

>mainly 3rd wave
irredeemable subhuman scum
>>
>>61985729
I'd replace Hawk is Howling with Young Team desu
>>
Happy they found a music to listen to that is artfully done with no vapid or destructive messages. I don't like judging people based on the music they listen to...
...
do I?
>>
>>61985729
I think they should be allowed to listen to whatever music they want to and that they shouldn't let this awful board tell them otherwise.
>>
>>61985729
This chart is so badly made
>>
Old post-rock (GY!BE and likes) is alright, but too depressing for me to listen to constantly. I had a post-rock phase at 15-17 and I felt like fucking depressed trash most of the time.

New post-rock is borderline -core garbage with fucking effects upon effects of useless sounding pointless shit.

Also Mogwai is fucking boring as fuck, and lack of Yndi Halda and Red Sparowes on the chart makes me sad.
>>
>>61985729
Better than wrong generation kids who only listen to 70s prog
>>
I am one of those people.
>>61985764
1st wave is a little small feeling, but 2nd wave stuff is great so that's okay.
>>
>>61985729
>hawk is howling
who made this shit chart? there are so many better mogwai albums
>>
Must be pretty patient, I can't stand it when it takes forever to even become audible.
>>
>>61986317
It's fucking awesome public transit/commute music, really.

Especially good when you are living in a big city and have to stare at the blank faces of people standing around you in subway at rush hour everyday, while Menuk is telling you about burning cars.
>>
>>61986135
There is literally nothing wrong with enjoying 70's prog.

I've never given post-rock a chance, trying it right now and it's slow and depressing so far.

I'd rather listen to energetic 70's rock that isn't depressing as death than be sad and listen to pretentious bullshit.
>>
>>61986469
Gastr Del Sol's Camofleur isn't depressing. Try that out.
>>
>>61986082
isn't harshly judging people for trivial reasons what this board is for?
>>
>>61986622
I'd rather have sharing and discussion of music than insecure teenagers bickering about stupid bullshit.
>>
>>61986469
I didn't say it was bad, one of my favourite albums is Thick as a Brick, but it's wrong to think it's the only music with substance out there. That's the kind of thinking that spawns dreadful bands like Dream Theater.
Try Standards by Tortoise and >>61986503, not depressing at all.
>>
>>61986729
Substance is subjective. I play guitar and am really into heavier and intricate styles as well as high energy music. I see more substance in Dream Theater than you do.

I see Gastr Del Sol as a guy making simple and slow music that pretends to be more deep because it uses unconventional instrumentation and digital noises in the background.
>>
>>61986678
then this is not the board you are looking for
>>
>>61986819
Skinny Fists is intricate due to layering and can get pretty high energy, but it takes a while to get there.

ooohhh try this maybe

Can anyone recommend any good post-rock with flute?
>>
>>61986858
There is no way this board is that much of a circlejerk.
>>
>>61986985
are you new here? just asking because this board is the worst and it doesn't take very long to see that
>>
>>61986985
it is
>>
>>61987002
Yeah I wanted to find some music and talk about it
>>
>>61987076
don't hold your breath friendo
>>
>>61987076
What kind of music are you looking for. What kind do you want to talk about?
>>
>>61987114
I was trying to get into post-rock but all of this stuff is pretty boring.
>>
>>61987130
Are you prog guy?
>>
>>61986892
This song is actually pretty cool.

>yet there's no talk talk
>>
>>61987162
I was the guy defending Dream Theater in this thread if that's what you mean.
>>
>>61987193
Yeah, well I'm mutyumu guy.
Their albums and maybe pic-related would be good places to go, because they blend prog with post-rock in a way that is pretty distinctive.

Long Fin Killie's Valentino is might be worth checking out for you.

You might even like Do Make Say Think
>>
>>61987193
post rock isn't really anything like prog at all honestly
>>
>>61985729
>>61986115
I started with Slint when I began listening to post-rock, this makes no sense to me

This is a much better chart, i actually made it myself a really long time ago.

If i was to make this chart now though, i would remove Russian Circles and add Set Fire to Flames - Sings Reign Rebuilder and The Seer

Gastr Del Sol
Long Fin Killie

Is Battle Of Mice post-rock?

>GIAA
I mean, it's a nice entry-level band, but it's really a shit band once you get at least a little into the genre. And EITS or Sigur Ros are probably better for getting into the genre anyway.
>>
>>61988295
I actually love that God IS An Astronaut album anon.

I've seen alot of people dismissing it as "generic" but it's really full with inspired compositions and it has it's own style going on - people who just call it "generic" are being unfair.
>>
>>61988443
well you're a fucking pleb so none of this is suprising
>>
>>61988443
GIAA is generic because every one of their song follows the same structure.
>>
>>61988469
Learn to respect opinions of others.

>>61988521
Not true.
>>
>>61988558
my opinion is that you're a stupid faggot

respect that
>>
Are there any good post-rock albums with a space vibe?
>>
>>61988615
Why would i respect that if you are saying it purely to try and insult me?

You are merely an immature person that fails to understand swearing someone over the internet in the way you do is bad.

>listening to prog
>caring about muh n-wave
All waves have their trash and gems mixed in equal portions. You're the true pleb if you willfully discriminate based on such irrelevant metric.
>>
>>61988809
Fucking aging brain. I meant post-rock.
>>
>>61988128
Yndi Halda is really pretty generic and dull, I would add This Will Destroy You's self titled for a nice twist on the Mogwai/EITS sound. Also you chose the least post rock DMST album, should start with Goodbye Enemy Airship the Landlord is Dead.
>>
>>61985729
2nd and third wave post-rock? They're depressed.

Seriously I can't think of any other genre as saturated by music that conveys this soul crushing feeling through its melodies. I mean for every Do Make Say Think there's dozens of fucking EitS, Godpseed, and Yndi Haldas. Shit's really emotionally draining.
>>
>>61989300
I guess some drone or black metal can compare, but post-rock is much more cathartic.
>>
>>61989375
black metal is for children

I started with LYSF, but even then I'd recommend that one would start with Slow Riot.
