I would argue the Mother 2 soundtrack to be very pivotal and essential in Video game music. It was one of the first games to have a huge abundance of tracks on a cartridge and probably the first to use digital sampling.

Barely any of the tracks from the first F-Zero returned in the later games. It doesn't matter if the sound chip was weak (which it wasn't), the game made the best of it and produced extremely enjoyable music that still sounds good today even if it clearly sounds like SNES music. it's part of what made it good in the first place. Replicating the tracks with F-Zero X' thrash metal style or GX' electronic/metal style would never be the same.
Am I the only one who can not stand most orchestral video games soundtracks? I was quite disappointed when Mass Effect 2 went from the badass sci-fi synth aesthetic in the original and adopted a more orchestral sound.

I'd agree that it's overrated, but it mostly has to do with all the tweens finally getting off the FNAF bandwagon onto another accessible indie game with characters that can be rule34-d to your desire. The game is really fun and heartwarming, and playing it before fucking everybody jumped on the bandwagon was pretty enjoyable.
