this album is the shittiest and most overrated album on this board. it boggles my mind how people consider this one of the greatest albums of all time, when it's not even the greatest album of that year imo (spiderland). fight me on this you faggots
>>
okay
>>
so it's the 2nd best album of the year then?
you're right it's shit
>>
This has decent copypasta potential

lets just end this thread right here. no one reply beyond this point

This.
It's got just enough cringe and could be used to talk about any acclaimed album you like because there's nothing of actual substance said.

Loveless is bad noisepop btw
>>
>>61980939
This sort of music's strong point isn't supposed to be lyrics. It's about the timbre and colour and how the layers of music interact with each other to produce interesting textures. There's also some good pop melody writing too but because of the production aesthetic so often they're swallowed in the wall of sound.

so because it's a mesh of all these instruments you can hardly make out and the lyrics are inaudible, it's one of the greatest albums of all time?

You realize everyone ITT knows you're baiting, right? If you don't "get" Loveless, you're essentially revealing to the rest of us that you're incapable of comprehending a release that challenges the listener.
>>
>>61981020
spiderland is a better album in every way. you say the layering of the music? spiderlands guitars intertwine like no other album, and the drumming is incomparable. sophistication? the time signatures are much more complex. and you can actually make out a story from each song. AND the whole album is more cohesive. fuck off.

I'd have said he has a shit palate and isn't capable of liking it because of that but you could be right too anon.

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy is some 5-6 years earlier distorted to fuck guitars with hushed soft vocals

Les Rallizes Denudes also is basically protoshoegaze VU

also in '91 we had Nowhere, Whirlpool, and i believe Soulvaki. If Loveless created a genre, these albums wouldn't pop out within months of it

>I love Star Wars and a space odyssey

Hello reddit
>>
>>61984291

When My Bloody Valentine walked on the stage of feedback-pop, something truly magic was finally created in the realm of psychedelia. The mini-album Ecstasy (1987) explored the ambiguity that would make their mature sound so haunting and devastating: ecstasy and terror were two faces of the same moon, and that moon shone day and night. Daydreaming and nightmare became the same state of mind as guitars enveloped naive melodies and drums smashed vocal harmonies. Isn't Anything (1988) went one step further than Jesus And Mary Chain, in that it renounced punk's violence and harked back to the most dilated forms of acid-rock. Kevin Shields' "shoegazing" guitar fullfilled Jerry Garcia's and Jimi Hendrix' galactic bliss, and helped the sweet litanies grind their way into a transcendental trance. Electronic keyboards joined guitar noise on Loveless (1991), the ultimate exploration of textures in rock music. Its stunning chaos can be viewed both as an enraptured "om" to the universe or as a deranged scream in a madman's cell or as a terrified paralysis in the face of a supernatural force. The album changed the meaning of the word "music" by proving the equivalence between "noisy" and 'symphonic", the same way that Einstein proved the equivalence between inertial and gravitational mass.

>Psychocandy released 1985

Hah take that Scaruffles
>>
Its a decent album with interesting production. I like it, but I agree, the fact that /mu/ considers it one of the greatest albums of all time is baffling.
>>
>>61984403

He knows that retard.

>An interesting variation on the psychedelic revival of the 1980s came out of Scotland when Jesus And Mary Chain coined "feedback-pop". The idea was quite simple and certainly not new: take the Velvet Underground's White Light White Heat and add a catchy melody, or take Phil Spector's "wall of sound" and add a layer of guitar noise. Massive distortions, coupled with nihilistic ethos borrowed from the Sex Pistols, bestowed on Psychocandy (1985) a funereal mood. Its spectral, acid, abrasive lullabies lasted only one season, though. The much lighter Darklands (1987) was a collection of melancholy ballads, and Automatic (1989), while more cohesive, professional and eclectic than anything they had done before, was basically dance-music, no matter how skewed, and Honey's Dad (1992) was even laid-back.
>>
Its the best shoegaze album ever. But shoegaze in general is a pretty irrelevant and boring genre.

Do you guys honestly think loveless is even that influential?
>>
>>61980905
Oh look, it's THIS thread again.
>>
>>61983437
Lots of albums have invented genres, but loveless is the only one thats considered "/mu/ core"

It has ever poor replayablitiy and the song writing is honestly really dull.

this is the best analogy for Loveless. Man it seems cool at first, and oh boy is it. not really much to it though. it's neat and it does something that seems impressive to children but an adult person really shouldn't pick it up very often.

>>

>Do you guys honestly think loveless is even that influential?

Wire
The Cure
Smashing Pumpkins
Radiohead
U2

And a ton of modern artists who have been influenced by Loveless. No album has topped Loveless since its release in '91
>>
>>61984614
Which is a good description of loveless.

Its pretty neat, but its certainly not one of the greatest albums of all time. Not even top 200
>>
>>61984291
As usual Loop were omitted
>>
>>61984666
yes, not saying it's bad by any means, "oh boy is it." i just agree with op in that it's not something i could ever foam at the mouth over, like certain others might.
>>
>>61984671
>Wire
>the Cure

You do realize both of these groups precede MBV and made their masterpieces before Loveless right

Quick question. What track do you think represents Loveless? The one that pops into your head when the album's name comes up.
>>

>>61984671
Wire and The Cure did their best work before Loveless, and those other bands are not very good.
>>
>>61984793
No album has topped My Bloody Valentine's Loveless since its release. No, not even Radiopleb.
>>
>>61984741
my favorite is probably come in alone. i don't know which one would represent loveless, i have never liked sometimes or only shallow like other people do. no disrespect but your question is hard for me to answer because i wouldn't be able to ask it of myself.
>>
>>61984815
No one fuckint cares since The Cure and Wire were way past their fucking peak after it came out you fucking idiot.

Did it have any major influence on the rock scene overall? Did have any sort of noticeable impact on the scene or revolutionize music? SPOILER ALERT: It didn't
>>

Not quite

>36 Chambers

Lol wut. Midnight Marauders was the released on the same coast the same year and was miles better. Both are still much weaker than Loveless.

Don't really care for Pavement or Laughing Stock, so I'd rather not say.
>>
>>61984975
The black keys? What does that have to do with anything?

Anyways, all of those bands you mentioned are obscure indie bands who only matter to losers on the internet. I like most of those bands, but if you think because they were influenced by loveless that makes loveless one of the greatest albums of all time, you're a moron.
>>
>>61981074
>unfunny meme with greentext

>>
>>61985105
I think Loveless is the greatest album of all time because of the music, the textures, the matter in which it teaches you to appreciate noise. I feel genuinely bad for those of you who will never get to experience it. It's quite the rush.

I'm sorry, but if there is something you can't say about Loveless is it hass poor replayability. It's one of the most amazing albums to explore, it gets richer with every replay, and if you just pulled out the cocks from your ears, you might realise the beauty of it.
>>
>>61984741
Blown a Wish.

just like The Cure and Wire apparently said about Loveless

so now TVU is officially influenced by Yeezus
