Has anyone successfully transitioned from being a rapper to working in another genre or vice versa?
Artists in other genres seem to regularly hop between genres but I can't think of any rappers who came from or went into another style and pulled it off.
Beck is maybe the closest I can think of
Lou Reed

I said "successful" transition. I know in the 80s a bunch of artists made novelty rap songs.

So this proves that rappers really aren't musicians, right?

Eyedea started making music at the age 14.
He got into rock music first but later in life after a few God-tier Hip-Hop records he created a grunge band.
He passed away 5 years ago. at 28.
Pic related is his first solo project he made when he was 18.
My favourite works of his.

Mark Wahlberg.
House of Pain ---> Everlast
Beastie Boys were a hardcore band at first.
I don't think I'd call it all that successful but Miles Davis did a rap album.

Doo Bop has a pretty sick beat though. Also, that album was posthumous so you can't really blame him.

Also gotta mention the noise influenced stuff on the Many Faces of Mikey record. He had a lot to give.
