Is this as good as metal gets?
No, but I would expect someone not that into metal to say that since it's the perfect album for a person not that into metal to listen to.
Far from it.

honestly I feel like I'm into angry metal subgenres but this album goes too far for me into that emotional side... all the "eat my cold shit oh yeah" stuff is kind of off-putting

Man, you hit the nail on the head.
So why is this the perfect album for someone not that into Metal to listen to? I hear this and it is so engaging and entertaining, and struggle so much with plenty of other metal.
What is it that this is doing that the others are not? Being entertaining/engaging?
>>61964292
Nah When The Kite String Pops is also like that. It's also still a good record though.
>>61966319
I'll first say the same thing I did above: just because it's easier to get into doesn't mean that it's bad.
That being said, the album's nowhere near as musically harsh as its other sludge metal peers. There's a lot of clean vocals compared to other sludge, and even the harsh vocals aren't actually that harsh, not sounding as monstrous as typical metal vocals and not being that raw. Most of the album's also different from typical sludge is that the guitars aren't downtuned. Maybe tuned down half a step at most, but I can still play most of the tracks on E standard tuning. Ultimately, the approach to putting many genre influences together makes their stuff more similar to a more metallic Alice In Chains rather than actual sludge metal. Also the production values themselves are pretty inoffensive for extreme metal; this often tends to be the major thing for people getting into more extreme forms of metal due to just how raw the production is.
Hope this makes sense.

Made perfect sense, actually.
Thanks!

it's definitely one of the best and the best in it's genre
Far from it.

Theres a lot of garbage in metal, but Summoning is something I would recommend to anyone who makes music. Unique lo-fi sound different than most lo-fi bm.
>>61964222
Dude you don't know what the fuck you are talking about
>>61964188
That album and band aren't any good in my opinion, so this thread is ylyl and I lost.
even though I know this album's a meme in /metal/ general it's been 15 years since I first heard it and I've never heard a better, more fun, more colorful metal album.
