We all know that feel.

>Talking about music with my friend
>What songs have you cried to anon?
>Casimir Pulaski Day
>Put it on for her
>She's not even really paying attention
>Halfway through she turns it off
>"Anon that was literally fucking garbage"

>>
That sounds like a pretty dick, anon.

I mean, people are entitled to their opinion, but you don't have to be a asshole cunt about it

I'm no friend of yours, but thanks for showing me. I'll have to click around his other songs
>>

You're welcome. I don't know why the song gets to me like it does. The album is worth the listen
>>
I've been laughed at more than once for suggesting The Beach Boys to someone.
>>
Just play some Merzbow and Melt Bananna for your friends and everything will be alright
>>
I was at a party once and put on a playlist. Born Under Punches by Talking Heads came on and somebody said "Why is the laptop playing two songs at once?"

Not my finest hour. The rest of it went down really well but that one makes me laugh and hurts all at the same time.
>>
>be at party
>suggest some music that isn't easily accessible to someone who spends half their day listening to hipster music
>(for some reason) act offended when you aren't hailed as a music genius with impeccable taste

honestly what were you idiots expecting?

Everytime I see this album posted on /mu/, I remember that.
>>
Most of my friends have great taste in music, and we can even zone out and listen to heavy 40 minute concept albums together

The only pleb friend I have is a guy who will not listen to anything that isn't "chill"
>>
>>61961988
I don't have friends so not really.

I'm usually playing something though throughout the day and whenever my sister visits me she always tells me what bad taste in music I have.

Meanwhile she still only listens to gangster rap.

You are very lucky. My friends play the same Kanye, Drake, Future songs and whatever is popular at the time. It drives me crazy because they must play their music out loud wherever they go.

We're in college and one of my friends plays music from his phone - out loud - wherever he walks.

My friend made me feel like a faggot when I was younger for saying I liked the Pixies. This was shortly before I remembered he was the faggot with no taste who listened to nothing besides shitty radio friendly pop punk
>>
>>61963608
Why is this? I've been friends with tons of guys and tons of girls and always, ALWAYS the girls have absolute shit taste

Recently this girl I've been getting close to said she was into heavy metal, so I asked what bands she liked and she said "Oh, I only listen to Bring Me the Horizon"
>>
>>61963582
Your sister has issues if she has to put you down whenever she sees you. The next time she says that tell her she needs self-esteem.

Dont have any specific stories but i've been able to get multiple people into The Microphones, Fishmans, and John Maus.

I'm pretty lucky to have friends that are passionate about music. There're about 4 or 5 of us that will basically listen to anything someone else puts on and be chill with it. The friend im forming a band with have chilled just smoking and listening to harsh noise. Also i know like 7 people who love Death Grips unironically, feels good.

I've posted a similar story before, but fuck here we go.

I was really, really, fucking really into the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I fucking loved them, first band I properly "got into" as it were. There were plenty of awkward time but this was probably the worst.

> Be me
> Be about 15 or 16
> Be fat, autistic mong who knew nothing about music
> Except RHCP
> Tag along with a group of people who basically tolerate more than anything
> Party gets mentioned, I decide to go without being invited
> Turn up with a big rucksack
> People think I'm finally cool, bringing beer or some sort of booze
> Literally filled rucksack with RHCP CD's
> Go straight to CD player
> Turn off CD playing at the time, put in RHCP CD
> Everytime a song finishes I put on another, nobody else is allowed access to the CD player
> People telling me to turn it off or give someone else a turn
> Almost in tears, drinking solitary beer I stole off someone, pretending to play bass like Flea in corner while everyone watches
> Imagine an overweight retard in a RHCP shirt badly air-guitaring along to songs while people watch in disgust
> Kill entire atmosphere of party
> Loudly proclaim they are the best band ever before being removed from the CD player by force

Years and fucking years later and I'm still known as "Red Hot Chili Peppers Guy". I can't bring up the band, mention anything related or play a couple of riffs from one of their songs without being ridiculed.

It will never die. Fucking RHCP.

You just zone out to the music. People use it to concentrate on something other than suffering when they work out. It sometimes sucks when you're doing cardio because it could fuck up your pace. Other than that, it's fine.

I was with a girl for seven years and she left me a few months ago, so I feel you guys. Shit was really fucking rough, all I can say is that you'll get over it with time. I ended up buying a motorcycle as an early-life-crisis-mobile. Totally fucking worth it. Also, here's something I saw posted on /mu/ a few weeks ago that really resonated with me and will hopefully do the same with you:

you too eh

I just keep telling myself that it's the same predictable shit every time. there's literally nothing to do but feel bad until it passes. breakups happen, and happiness happens after the breakup, and it's inevitable. there's no rushing it, there's just a lot of contemplation and brooding and overthinking until suddenly you're okay again.

the best thing you can do is find a friend and vent your heart out. discuss every aspect, discuss what went wrong and how to avoid the things that hurt you with the next person you meet, and what was good about the relationship that made the whole thing worthwhile. relationships are incubators to grow and learn, she affected you in a meaningful way and you have evolved through her, hopefully for the better. she is a brush stroke on the benevolent watercolour that is you. think about her impact, and what you can do to allow that impact to make you a better person.

you will be okay.

damn u guys this is why i love you.

this is the 3 years relationship guy. shitty thing is, me and this girl actually met on /mu/. she was so complicated and interesting, and was a lot like me in so many ways. had similar and even more patrician taste than i did. legitimately thought we were going to be together forever. then we got to college, started living together, and i found out she cheated on me with some stoner. i knew it happened, but she totally lied to me about it to my face. i decided not to tell her i knew, and we broke up. now im stuck in this situation where i have 2 more months till i study abroad, but we're still living together and i have no where else to go. she just sleeps at that stoners place every night. fuck /mu/ hold me

sorry just venting. ignore this shitpost

yep. a week after we broke up she then set her profile picture to her with that guy

keep in mind that me and this girl were CLOSE. our families were very close - i stayed with her family for a while and she stayed in mine. we acted like we were married. and then she does all this shit to me? i think she also has a problem with weed - she never smoked before college, but she started smoking almost every night with this dude she cheated on me with.

everyone i talk to says that i dodged a bullet and that i didnt allow myself to marry this girl or anything. but damn its hard to just say that and get over it after 3 years, yknow? i know its only been a week but like damn
>>
>>61969374

thank u
>>
>>61969400
I know how that feels. I met a girl when I was in a mental hospital and we ended up dating for years. I became emotionally dependant on her and out of the blue one day she decided to just break up with me. That same day she changed her relationship status and everything on her social media to be her with some other guy that she obviously met and liked better me.

I was fucked up for a loooong time after that, and she went through guy after guy, 3 of them in just a few months, using people to make her feel better about her own insecurities as a person. And when she gets bored of them she just moves on to the next guy.

Women are evil

Its not hard to play music at a party. I actually have a playlist pre-made on my phone for this exact scenario that consists of some crappy music that everyone likes, some less known stuff but is catchy and people always seem to like it, and a few songs that are a little less accessible to push the boundaries a bit without going too far. It works great every time and I've had numerous people compliment how good the playlist is, and its still a playlist I can listen to on my own

I really don't understand why this is hard for you guys

When I was in high school I was at a friend's house with a few other friends playing GTA V while also playing music on a laptop at the same time. When it was my turn to pick the music, I chose a Beastie Boys (it was either No Sleep Till Brooklyn or Fight for Your Right can't remember). I should clarify that the friends I was with were not that into hip hop/rap. In fact it's probably safe to say that they flat out didn't like the entire genre (to be fair I used to be like that too). Anyways the song plays and they don't like it. One friend in particular didn't like it because the Beastie Boys were saying the name of their band in the song, self-referencing themselves.

Honestly I've never experienced people being this dickish about music. Once at my job I put on a playlist and Melt-Banana and everyone thought it was weird but I just said "cmon you cant not have fun with this music" and people were ok with it. I put on American Football at my job and people liked it, I put on Animal Collective and people thought it was aight. Maybe I'm just lucky
>>
>>61972359
This is basically what I do too.
Although I usually have an album on my ipod somebody wants to hear, for whatever bizarre circumstances.
It happened at a really mixed party once with Stop Making Sense.
Either that or I put on bleep bloop techno music that doesn't care if you pay attention to it.
>>
>>61972163
Yeah that's fine. I already said we broke up pretty quickly afterwards. I didn't break up with her because of the specifically but the shitty nature of her in that scenario carried over to a lot of other areas. Sucks though because the sex was great. Biggest boobs and nicest ass I've ever had and she didn't have them because she was fat either, she had a perfect hourglass body. Not sure how I managed to score it. Oh well though, other than that she sucked as a person

I have like three close friends.
Two of them listen to stuff like The National and The Antlers etc, so they're not bad to talk about music to. Even if they don't like it they'll take the time to understand and appreciate it.

Other friend is a massive weeb and only listens to anime music and j-rock.

>>61961988
I thought girls loved shit like Casimir Pulaski day. What the hell was wrong with your friend? I played the album for my mom (usually a normie) a while back and yesterday she asked me to put on the "pretty album with the sad song about bone cancer."

IKTF

Dated an amazing girl who was way out of my league and hit all the fetishes, she even let me cum straight into her ass. But she was a horrible human being and I broke up with her
>>
>>61972525
Yeah, it weirdly happens to me a lot. The majority of girls I've banged have been way of my league but also really shitty people. A gift and a curse I suppose

FFS this is why I don't play music around my family. They'll be enjoying the song and then 20 seconds of weird noises and they're jumping down my throat. It's almost like they're being triggered by it with how ridiculous they react. Sometimes it's not even anything weird, I put on Trans-Europe Express and my mom asked me to turn it off because it was too repetitious.

I'm "training" my sister to be more open to new sounds when we take drives together. It's easier when there's not everyone else in the house for her to rally with against my music, so I can convince her to give it a chance.

Yeah New Order is pretty good. My favorite songs by them are True Faith, 1963, and Blue Monday. What other ones would you recommend?

/mu/ will >imply at me for recommending a compilation, but the Substance 1987 album is a bunch of their non-album singles and B-sides. It's a great place to start with them, they deliberately put as much effort into singles as they did albums. As far as the albums themselves go, it's really hard to go wrong with anything they made from 1983-93, but my personal favorite is Brotherhood.

i really fucking hate this board at times. you guys claim to be miserable because youre just so misunderstood and special, yet you all listen to the exact same most normal shit there.

it would be fucking awful to have this mindset. to think you have no friends because youre different when really its just because youre insufferable.
>>
>>61974112
In that case I'd recommend their debut album, Movement. But other than that I hate to say that you're pretty much out of luck, after that one they kinda shook off their post-punk Joy Division-y sound and went to making dance music full-time.
>>
>>61963741
Something similar has happened to me a few times. When I was first starting to listen to music I was mostly listening to like the Beatles or Queen so some people keep saying I'm an old man because I liked classic rock even though I don't listen to that much anymore. Later on I would occasionally listen to metal and some people think I only listen to metal despite again, not really listening to it much anymore. To be fair though it's few and far between the times anyone knows or cares what I listen to so it's not like they would know what I listen to on a daily or weekly basis.

Friend once told me when we were talking on a group chat
>yeah anon you probably have the worst taste in music here
fuck you you aren't entitled to an opinion when all you listen to is fucking chillwave and video game soundtracks and your friend who you consider has best taste listens to fucking dad rock. fuck off. I might not have the most eclectic taste in music but it's far more fucking eclectic than yours. I'll go from Marvin Gaye to Merzbow within a matter of minutes. David Bowie to Oneohtrix Point Never within a matter of seconds. Like holy shit just fuck off back to your next league of legends match while you listen to fucking monstercat you pleb shit. Oh yeah, and your "patrician" friend? Little fucking douchebag only fucking listens to pink floyd and spouts his "le music after the 80s sucks ass bro" bullshit. So look here you little fuckass. Fuck off my music tastes. just fuck off.

This right here perfectly sums up what I don't understand about these threads, why didn't you just tell him all this. My dad has God tier musical taste and he just sits there and takes all this shit from my G-Eazy loving old brother and sister, it's depressing as fuck. If you like your music so much tell them they're being a cunt.

Seriously, what do you people expect?
Most people couldn't give a fuck about anything other mainstream stuff especially when they're at a party.
Just because you think you have a good taste in music does't mean anyone else should or will.
