He dissapeared after presumably jumping from the Severn bridge but his body was never recovered. The picture is from an interview with BBC Journalist Steve Lamacq who questioned the bands punk credentials, Edwards then proceeded to carve 4 real into his arm with a razor blade. They're a good band for the first four albums but their more recent stuff is a bit lack lustre in my opinion.

Honestly I haven't listened to Futorology, so I'll check it out. I found their albums post Everything Must Go to just not have the sonic and emotional resonance their first four albums did (Particularly The Holy Bible which I genuinely believe is a masterpiece and criminally underrated). Also they seem to have shied away from the controversial and political aspects of their early music. I would have loved to have heard Richey's planned fourth album which was going to be like "Pantera meets Nine Inch Nails meets Screamadelica" according to the lead singer James Dean Bradfield.
