If you're going to do work that requires concentration then yes I tend to get distracted and prefer to study in silence. However, when I'm about to do some tasks that hardly require any reflection e.g. math tasks I feel excited to play music while studying... until I get stucked then I get vexed and stop it altogether to focus.

By 'poorly written' I mean simply that the grammar, expression and sentence structure is sub-par. Pynchon's writing is sloppy as fuck, but protected by the excuse of being experimental. Same goes for Danielewski, for example. Again, I'm talking about basic writing quality, not narrative structure, etc.

Even in Pynchon's most confusing and conscious-shattering passages he always maintains total control over his language and rhythm. I've read every one of his books and not once have I seen a single word out of place or a serious grammatical error; they are all products of extreme attention to detail and consideration of his audience.
There's a marked difference between being unable to follow conventional rules of grammar and consciously choosing not to. Learn to recognize it please.
