I completely agree. History, hopefully, will look back on Cobain without being concerned about his vocal youth fanbase. He wasn't the most musically knowledgeable, but there is definitely something there in his compositions. Read what Steve Albini had to say about him.

They had about 10 hits in total and for a band only having 3 (or 4 counting Incesticide) albums is pretty good. You have to also take into account The Beatles were in the mainstream longer. Kurt Cobain was only 27 when he died.
