What is the best guitar duo of all time, and why is Thurston and Lee?
>>
>>61933424
what kind of bridges do they use on their jazzmasters?
>>
>>61933424
>those unstable bridges on those expensive guitars.

Seriously those bridges ruin the guitar, fucked intonation, always dropping out of tune, the guitar sounds thin, lacks sustain. The only advantage is the trem and they don't use it half the time. I don't know why they didn't use strats and teles more.
>>
>>61933486
>>61933461
They use Mastery bridges, as all patricians do.

catchpa: street names. Murray comes to mind..
>>
>>61933517
>le there can't be any drawback to the meme guitar because a famous man uses one

Literally fuck off. Even if they use mastery bridges, they are still an unstable instrument, from my experience unless you're distorting and reverbing them to the shithouse while constantly using the trem arm like Kevin Shields, you may aswell play a strat or a tele. It's literally only used half of the time because it's associated with "alternative" music. I love Sonic Youth, but those guitars are a pain in the ass.

Maybe you just suck ass at guitar. Lots of professional players much better than you have no problem using offset guitars.

Do you own one of these guitars? I do. They are terrible, thin, no sustain, string buzz, constant problems with almost every part down to the electronics. It just astounds me to this day that so many people use them as their main guitar when the music they play doesnt use the trem arm: the only redeeming feature, that *almost* makes up for how badly they play oherwise.
>>
>>61933549
>>61933674
They are great too, but aren't on the same level of cooperation of Lee and Thurston
>>
>>61933486
>always dropping out of tune
I read that that was because of people using lighter gauge strings when the floating system jazzmasters use needs heavy strings
>>
>>61933831
I've tried a few different gauge strings, if anything, thicker strings make it worse.

What about Verlaine and Lloyd?

Yes, I own 3.

>They are terrible, thin, no sustain, string buzz, constant problems with almost every part down to the electronics.

I agree that the original bridge is not great, but with a mastery all the rattle and buzz problems are gone. The trebly sound and short sustain is part of the appeal of the sound, if you didn't like it why did you buy one? That's like ordering a pizza and complaining that it doesn't taste like a cheeseburger, ya dig.

I've never had any functional problems with mine.

I own a Jazzmaster and a Stratocaster, the stratocaster is superior in almost every aspect. A jazzmaster is okay if you have a guitar tech at the click of your fingers like most musicians who use them do, but otherwise there is just something about them that feels off when I play them. Tone wise, there is nothing it can do that I can't get my strat to do. I just don't see the appeal, apart from the tremolo system.
>>
>>61933797
>>61934034
If they're so terrible then give me yours, I need one.
>>
>>61934139
Oh you will regret purchasing one, I'm going to trade mine in soon at a second hand music shop and get something else with the trade in money.
>>
>>61934034
I like Strats too but there is plenty Jazzmasters can do that strats can't. For example the thick sounding/noiseless middle position. The rhythm circuit is great for chord melody jazz playing too, with flatwounds it can approximate the sound of an electric archtop. Strats can't get that sound because of the lack of the two piece bridge/break angle.

Also behind the bridge picking + a sound with more harmonic overtones in relation to the fundamental note (this is bad for most people, but great if you're an experimental guitarist)
>>
>>61934034
Also just curious, which offset guitar do you own?

>>61934247
Maybe, but I still have my strat, I need one more for the bridge than the tremolo, as the second anon mentioned. There's just stuff I can do on a jag or a jm that I can't do on a strat.

They also make fixed bridge models with humbuckers that don't have any of those problems.
>>
>>61933424
I've never had trouble playing an offset

You just suck at guitar OP

Sonic Youth are the reason they're associated with 'alternative' music.

Underrated.

I own a J. Mascis Jazzmaster and it rarely goes out of tune even after heavy use of the trem arm.

offsets are fine with some tweaking, the bridge kind of sucks but you can just put a mustang, staytrem or mastery bridge in and its fixed

all guitars have tuning stability problems. Usually this is caused from the string binding at the nut which is sticky or poorly cut. Most guitars never get a proper set up.

A properly setup offset with an aftermarket bridge (or stock bridge with heavy gauge strings) is a great guitar.
