I want songs or albums that make you want to curl up and die when you hear them. Real sad stuff.

Pic related are a few albums in the style of what I'm looking for.

Please give recommendations

I love Pornography too, I just figured if I'm only putting a quick 4 album collage, I'd leave it out since it's more popular than the two Cure albums I put and that I'd be aware of it..

Don't want to sound rude sorry I'm just a sperg and feel the need to defend my position.

>Faith

Most underrated Cure album IMO. Never got why Pornography and Disintegration were lumped together when Disintegration sounds more like an elaboration of Faith's sound more than anything, but whatever. If you like The Cure, you might like Katatonia, especially their last few albums.

The Unnatural World makes me more emotional then Deathconcioussness. Especially Burial Society
>>61923685
Because depressing or melancholy music fits the mood of how you're feeling. If I listen to very cheerful music when I'm sad, I don't connect to it and puts me in a worse mood.

Good list. That Earl album is one of my favorites from 2015.
>>
>>61923685
Because depressing music is more enjoyable when you're depressed, and depression is more enjoyable when you listen to depressing music.

I can't enjoy happy feel-good music when I'm down, so that reinforces a negative emotional state more than sad music does.

Recently got this.

I never understood why people on here think it's so crushing though. GC is depressing in ways yes, especially cause it spawned out of Dan Barrett wanting to kill himself, but with the book and everything around it, it's more about just creepy new england occult shit.

When I was really depressed two years ago I actually found it to be quite uplifting.Idk I just don't find it to be anymore sad than Deathconsciousness

got mine too the other week, didn't get that black patch thing tho. Looks cool

I find it to be the exact definition of crushing tho. The significance behind the title Giles Cory is the idea of ((crushing)) depression. When I first listened to it I remember thinking how it felt like the drums of Blackest Bile were physically oppressive, and it felt like they were pushing me into my bed while I was listening. I had a similar experience with No One is Ever Going To Want Me. Also the imagery Dan describes in the opening and closing tracks with devils sitting oh him have the double meaning of his inner demons but also signify the way people with night terrors explain pressure they feel during the episodes, like devils sitting on them.

idk, I just think Dan did a great job with the concept and I definitely found it effective. I haven't read the book yet though, The thing already creeps me out with the screams on the opener and that mock radio broadcast, but I'll get to it eventually.

sorry for the essay

From Parasite
>Lifting the mask from a local clown, feeling down like him
>Seeing the light in a station bar and traveling far in sin
>Sailing downstairs to the northern line, watching the shine of his shoes
>Hearing the trials of the people there, who's to care if they lose?

I feel like this is pretty representative of the level of sadness and helplessness of the music on that album. It's not screamy or tortured like Slint or Joy Division, but it has a certain kind of defeated tone that can be much sadder than those bands if the listener is mentally in a bad place. I think the fact that he's such a good lyricist makes it even worse.

I'm mostly just upset that it's only ever discussed for feels and never for the brilliant music on the album. Nick Drake is a guitar god, and for so long I though he was just the folk version of Ian Curtis because of threads like these.

I see where you're coming from, and I agree that the tone of his songs often overshadows his excellent guitar playing in a lot of discussions of his work. I think it's a testament to his work that it resonates with so many people though.

building nothing out of something is probably the saddest thing i've ever experienced. i used to listen to that on constant repeat when i was the height of my suicidal ideation. every day i'd listen to it and drink a whole pot of coffee and eat corn flakes, and then every night i'd listen to it and get drunk. even seeing the cover makes my throat swell up a bit. i'm so glad that i don't feel that way anymore

> Carissa's Wierd - Songs About Leaving
Great album, long time favorite of mine. Only complaint is it peaks pretty early on. Plus they're fellow Seattle locals which is cool.
> Cursive - Domestica
Big Cursive fan, they were surprisingly one of the best live shows I've been to. Tim Kasher is a cool fucking dude too. Domestica and The Ugly Organ are amazing, but I'd probably say his best album is Black Out by The Good Life, although The Ugly Organ is really close.

I've never heard red house painters so I'll check them out since your other rec's are good.

>bright eyes - lifted or the story is in the soil, keep your ear to the ground
Essential listening if you enjoyed Fevers, and if fevers was too sad, dark, "whiny", or whatever then you might like this one a lot more. Slightly less sad of a tone overall than the much darker fevers and mirrors, lifted is a more acoustic driven, folky album and features an amazing orchestra made up of Conor's friends and local musicians.

That's alright. On /mu/ you're a lot better off if you stop caring about that stuff. Also, you better not ever use the words "pleb" or "patrician". There is no quicker way to have your opinion invalidated.

>nothing heals a bad mood like bad mood music.
That's completely wrong. Nothing nurtures a bad mood like bad mood music.

For quite a while I've felt that I am one sad song away from a good cry, but I just don't listen to sad music anymore. I try to explore other emotional states in music, and it really reflects on my mood.
I mean I still LIKE the sad music. I just don't have a place in my life for them right now. I feel like I need to be positive, and non-negative music helps me with that.
