i see a constant praise for young thug
i heard barter 6 and couldn't stand it
can someone pls explain what is so great about him? i really want to give the guy a chance
>>61920170
are you stupid
it's the mastering of the album in a picture, there's a shitload of clipping
>>61920247
along with Future he is legit a joke, the only people who like them are people from hhh/KTT and people who've never listened to a significant of music outside of hip-hop
>>61920302
I don't know about Future but Young Thug is great and I'm sure that I've listened to much more music than you
>>61920302
You have no idea what you're talking about.
>>61920302
not true some guy made a top 4 chart with 3 russian minimalist composers and barter 6
>>61920388
>>61920392
Honestly the main reason I assume the whole Young Thug thing is a hypebeast fad for teens is because his fans never actually explain the appeal. They just go "no he's actually good!" without explaining why his warbling and whining isn't terrible. I know people like to be vague on /mu/ but I've literally never seen one person explain him even when I've asked.
>>61920131
Hey I just listened to this album for the first time and I don't know what you mean
>>61920019
Very pleasant surprise
>>61920540
Oh and to add to this, the only people I know IRL who listen to Young Thug are my teenage brother's friends who are always like "it's lit senpai" and a white 29 year old marketing dude who unironically also says stuff like It's lit senpai this shit's fire" and listens exclusively to the latest top-40 hip hop. I've even asked them to explain it to me and they can't, they're just like "this shit's hard senpai that's why"
>>61920610
Lmao great album
>>61920540
No one in hip-hop really brings the same unique kind of energy as him. You and plenty of others might not like him, but he has a interesting flow and is bursts with so much charisma in his songs that its hard not to like him (as long as you're already in to this kind of stuff). Not to mention his great ear for melodies and absurd lyrics (which can be really funny sometimes)
But really, he's the type of rapper that you either love or hate
>>61920654
whaaaaat i always thought it was a hat ;-;
>>61920540
Barter 6 might be the most important hip-hop album of this decade. Its barely there production doesn’t so much frame his rapping as it does provide a surface for his words to dance upon, to explore the art of rapping in multiple dimensions: melodically, rhythmically, lyrically, and in terms of composition. His voice glides through the thick absence of sound. He’s responsible for a lot of the songwriting; he knocks out his own hooks, and his writing speaks to his use of phrasing, his backgrounds, the flows he uses, and the way he plays with each song’s internal architecture. On “Halftime,” his car-screech adlibs are elongated—it’s as if a camera panned suddenly from a pinprick of light, causing it to blur—so he can change tones, harmonizing this background yelp with his own main vocals.
His lyrical style stands out in a number of ways; the most obvious is his ear for figurative language. Thug’s similes often build upon familiar imagery, but move in unexpected directions. On “Check,” he opens rapping about a “Mink coat with the rolls like a Shar Pei”; later on, he raps, “All my niggas, they hard, call them beetles.” These aren’t punchlines intended to get rap fans doubling over laughing (although they can be funny in their unpredictability). Thug seems more interested in an original and idiosyncratic approach to imagery, in discovering pathways in language that haven’t already been heavily traveled.
In this, his lyrical approach is closer to a rapper like Raekwon than it is Lil Wayne, with whom Thug is frequently compared through some fault of his own. But any close reading of his lyrics suggest comparisons between The Barter 6 and Wayne’s Carter series, for which it is named, are a total misdirection. Where Wayne shredded his vocals against hip-hop’s formal constraints, Thug is a synthesist, a rapper of control, an artist in the process of reassembly.

>Life sucks scum fuck
Why would you even listen to that cholo?
>>61920780
Thank you for replying, you are the first person to ever do so to this question when I've asked.
So he has a "unique energy." How so? Like what does that mean. What separates his flows from all the other triplet-rapping guys that are everywhere right now? I can understand being a unique figure who's charismatic and funny but that seems pretty distinct from the music. Like if you JUST had those ingredients the final product wouldn't be good. Though the melody thing I get.
Sorry if this comes off asshole-ish.
>>61920894
i don't get it
>>61920654
knew it was hair but did not notice the headphones
Jesus of Nazareth, I did not expect this at all.
Thank you based Aphex
>>61920874
the tl;dr of this copypasta is that if you have shitty "barely there" production that takes minutes to make and do wacky noises on top then some white hipster will promote your album for free
>>61921018
i never understood what the fuck does a "barely there production" means
>>61921035
minimalist beats
>>61920920

>>61920054
Well memed my friend.
>>61921035
usually when there's minimalistic instrumentation on something people focus on the other parts that are good, like the singing and well-written lyrics, since that's the point of putting the instrumentation so far out of the focus.
the problem with shitty top-40 hip hop is that a couple years ago when people would say "why do you listen to this garbage the rapping is bad and the lyrics are shit" their response was "yeah but the production is so well made!" now they can't do that because the production has gotten so lazy so they've started praising "barely there production" for vague reasons
This is the saddest album I've listened to in some time. and one of my favorites. The whole album is packed full with emotion and sorrow, about fleeting friendships and dejection.
I truly love this band.
>>61921394
and for the double up
This album fucking destroyed me.
>>61920302
I know he's talking about the clipping
I was pointing out how silly it was posting a picture of clipping from a completely different track and artist - putting a waveform of Monster in as the pic would make the point far better
>>61920516
I agree that Blackstar is like Black Tie White Noise. Because it's one of his best albums.

You have two people on /mu/ telling you it's neither.

>>61920540
I find a lot of his melodies to be very interesting and basically ear candy, yet there's a certain weirdness/uniqueness that seperates him from other trap rappers
All that being said I usually can't/don't sit through a full project of his, but his high points are mountainous
