i really, really like this album
what's some other great japanese artists?
>>61919029
Fishmans are pretty fucking unique, not just in Japanese music but music as a whole, so it'll be difficult to find something similar.
But the essential Japanese rock artists are Fushitsusha, Boredoms, Les Rallizes Dénudés, Boris, Acid Mothers Temple, the Pillows, Sigh, Melt-Banana. Most of them are on the noisier side so be warned.
I'm sure there's much more I'm missing, Japan has had a ridiculously impressive canon in modern music. Their current math rock scene in particular is pretty impressive.

Please someone prove this guy wrong. I really want more magic albums like Long Season
>>61919373
Long Season is my favorite album and I haven't been able to find anything similar, really. :/
Don't know them, but Susumu Hirasawa is a great J-Electronica artist. As is Bo En and Singer Sen.
Midori, Mass of the fermenting dregs, the pillows, nujabes, Salon Music, after dinner, haco, ryo maruoka, 2814
Heres a list of essential japanese music

FUCK
Shugo Tokumaru.
He's a bit more poppier than Fishmans but this album is still top tier.

First make sure you listen to everything by them
If you like Fishmans listen to Polaris, the project of their bassist and some other guy I can remember right now, there isn't anything really similar to them desu tho

>2814
I thought that was made by the guy who runs dream catalogue. Isn't he just some american vaporwave meme kid?
NUMBER GIRL, Zazen Boys, Jagatara - three essential Japanese rock groups
tricot is awesome
lotta good shit from japan
if you don't like Boris, Rainbow and Attention Please are completely different takes on their sound

Make sure to listen to pic related later, after getting to know their stuff better. It's their last ever live show, and it's generally agreed that the version of Long Season in this is better than the original. Plus, the backstory is depressing as fuck.

seconding the mootkips list
he has an avantteen bias but still p good
I recently got into Frenesi and I really like her. I like everything I've heard of her's but I especially like the album Gendai.

Where can I find the backstory? I know the singer died the next year.
>>61920221
I thought this version was good, but I don't know if either was better than the other. They were both different
>>61919029
Sajjanu, nuito, té, Cyberne, Knellt, Ryuichi Sakamoto, White Hospital, Koenji Hyakkei, Ruins, Gauge Means Nothing, Guitar Wolf, Keiji Haino

Not much beyond that, actually. The main singer had a heart disease and he knew he didn't have much longer to live and that it was going to be his last show. The concert had a somewhat sad and very "final" feel to it, you can especially hear it in his singing. At the end he started crying and gave out one final goodbye and left. He died 3 months later.

>so many empty slots
Take my earlier suggestion and add in some Susumu Hirasawa - Planet Roll Call, Philosopher's Propellor or Aurora are all good picks

Number girl has a great discography and really unique sound. I second this

I gave them a listen back in summer, really enjoyed Gendai. Learned about them through Taiko, their song andromeda shore is one of my favourites. I'm happy to see another person post about them. Thr first track on Gendai always gets me going.
Lamp a pretty good Japanese band too. https://youtube.com/watch?v=eD4tKKwfktA
